Office Chair Backrest Replacement Parts

Admin October 11, 2026

Replacing parts of an office chair backrest requires selecting the appropriate components based on specific issues and following standardized procedures, mainly involving two aspects: part selection and repair methods.

Part Selection

There are various types of components related to office chair backrests, with prices varying significantly depending on the material and function.

  • Basic Support Components: For example, the iron backrest support components of modern minimalist office chairs, priced between 16.0 and 21.5 yuan, are suitable for chairs with metal frame structures and need to match the original chair's dimensions.
  • Combination Part Sets: A set of components for swivel chairs/computer chairs/mesh chairs, including backrests and armrests, priced at 93.5 yuan, is suitable for scenarios where the entire backrest and surrounding structures need to be replaced.
  • Functional Components: For example, a hollow mesh backrest headrest plastic component with adjustable height and angle, priced at 12.0 yuan, is suitable for chairs that require adjustment of the backrest tilt or addition of a headrest function; a simple add-on backrest height extension component (35.0 yuan) is suitable for taller users or those who need to enhance neck support.
  • Replacement Springs: If the spring's locking position fails, a replacement spring with a diameter of 3 - 5mm needs to be purchased (priced approximately between 5 and 15 yuan). The original spring's length should be measured in advance to ensure compatibility.

Repair Methods

Choose the corresponding operation based on the type of backrest failure:

  • Loose Screws: Use a Phillips screwdriver to rotate the plastic cover plate at the base connection counterclockwise. After exposing the metal fixing bracket, use a wrench to tighten the 6 - 8 fixing screws one by one (it is recommended to operate symmetrically at 90ยฐ intervals to prevent structural deformation due to uneven force).
  • Spring Locking Position Failure: Locate the spring bolt at the bottom of the chair backrest and use needle-nose pliers to re-insert the slipped spring hook into the slot; if the spring is deformed, replace it with a new one, ensuring that both ends of the spring are aligned with the slot during installation.
  • Excessive Gap in the Pneumatic Rod: Remove the dust cover at the bottom of the seat, locate the black plastic adjusting knob, and rotate it counterclockwise to increase the support force. Test the rebound resistance in stages of 30ยฐ during adjustment to avoid damaging the pneumatic rod due to excessive adjustment.
  • Temporary Emergency Handling: If professional tools are not available, cut a bicycle inner tube into 3cm wide tape and wrap it around the joint between the chair backrest and the base to increase friction; or use rubber bands to tie the movable joints of the pneumatic rod to limit the swing amplitude. Such operations can maintain stability for 3 - 7 days, and parts should be replaced as soon as possible.

Precautions: Before repair, turn off the lifting function of the pneumatic rod (if any) to avoid sudden lowering of the seat surface during operation; if structural disassembly is involved, it is recommended to take photos to record the original state for easy restoration.
