Office Chair Backrest Repair
The repair of an office chair backrest requires selecting the appropriate method based on the specific damage. Here are some common issues and their solutions:

1. Backrest cushion detachment If the backrest cushion detaches due to the falling off of the cushion nut, first use a hole opener to enlarge the original hole and clean up any remaining nut fragments. Then, select a No. 6 threaded rod and screw it into the hole. Use a zip tie with four teeth to snap into the tooth groove and fix the nut by adjusting the position of the zip tie. When the glue is nearly dry, unscrew the threaded rod to complete the final fixation of the nut. Key point: Before the glue is completely dry, repeatedly twist the threaded rod with a screwdriver to prevent it from sticking inside the hole and affecting subsequent disassembly.
2. Damage at the connection between the base and the backrest This area is the main load-bearing component. If damaged, repair it in two steps:
- Method 1: Use an electric drill to evenly drill a row of small holes on the fracture surface and mark the outline of the fracture surface with correction fluid. After merging the fracture surfaces, replicate the hole positions to the other side. Prepare a homemade adhesive (cut foam board into small pieces, dissolve them in gasoline, add baking soda to thicken, and use spray paint for color matching). Dip rivets into the adhesive and insert them into the small holes, then apply the adhesive to fix the fracture surfaces.
- Method 2: Remove the graphite rod from inside a battery, grind it into a fine powder, and mix it evenly with baking soda. Use tape to seal the three sides of the fracture location, fill the powder into the gap, and drop 502 glue for reinforcement. After the glue dries, sand it smooth and finally spray paint to restore the appearance. Note: Wear a mask during operation to avoid inhaling the powder.
3. Backrest cannot stand upright or adjust This issue is usually caused by a hydraulic system failure. Lay the chair on its side and inspect the transmission components: If the toggle is normal but the hydraulic mechanism has detached, replace the pivot fixing screw (originally a 10*1 non-standard screw). A standard No. 10 screw (30 mm in length) can be used as a replacement. Use a tap to cut threads or install it directly with a wrench. After screwing a nut onto the bolt, adjust the position of the screw by adding or removing washers to prevent it from interfering with the movement of the hydraulic rod. Tip: Clean the surface of the hydraulic rod before installation to ensure a tight fit between the screw and the hole.
4. Backrest does not rebound If the backrest cannot automatically rebound, check the nut below the adjustment lever. If the nut is loose or damaged, tighten it directly or replace it with a nut of the same specification. Operation suggestion: Use an adjustable wrench to hold the nut to avoid over-tightening and causing the threads to strip.
