Office Chair Backrest Operation

Admin October 16, 2026

Office chair backrest operation typically includes unlocking, adjusting elasticity, locking angles, returning to an upright position, and other special adjustment methods. The specific steps are as follows:

  1. Unlocking the Recline Function
For most office chairs, the recline function needs to be unlocked using a handle on the right side or at the back of the seat. When operating, gently pull the handle, and the backrest will detach from its fixed position, entering a free-movement mode. Some chairs may require a slight push with the back to ensure the unlocking action is complete. This step is a prerequisite for adjusting the backrest angle. Be sure to confirm the handle's position and operation direction to avoid damaging parts due to excessive force.

  2. Adjusting Recline Elasticity
The support force of the backrest can be adjusted using a cylindrical knob on the base. Turning the knob clockwise will increase the rebound force, suitable for users who are heavier or require stronger support; turning it counterclockwise will decrease the elasticity, making reclining easier, suitable for users who are lighter or prefer a softer feel. Adjust slowly and feel the backrest's feedback in real-time until you find the most comfortable force.

  3. Locking the Recline Angle
Some chairs support multi-angle locking. When operating, pull out the control lever on the right side of the seat cushion, and the chair will enter a free-recline mode; after finding a suitable angle (such as 90ยฐ for office work, 100ยฐ for reading, 125ยฐ for resting, or 155ยฐ for lying flat), gently push the control lever to lock the angle. After locking, gently shake the backrest to confirm stability and avoid accidental reclining due to loose parts.

  4. Returning to an Upright Position
When you need to end the recline, pull the control lever outward and simultaneously push the backrest backward with your back; the chair will gradually return to an upright position; after it is fully upright, push the control lever back into place to complete the locking. This step requires attention to coordination to avoid tilting the chair or damaging the locking mechanism due to unilateral force.

  5. Other Adjustment Methods
Some chairs use a combined adjustment method of pulling the handle + applying back force: after pulling the handle, control the backrest angle by applying back force, and release the handle to fix it. In addition, high-end smart office chairs may support voice control. For example, after pressing the โ€œpower-onโ€ button on the left side, you can issue voice commands (such as โ€œXiao Du, adjust the backrest to 125ยฐโ€) to operate it. You need to familiarize yourself with the voice interaction logic in advance.

Precautions: Read the product manual before operating to confirm the types of functions the chair supports; avoid using sharp tools when adjusting to prevent scratching the seat surface or damaging the mechanical structure; regularly check the tightness of knobs, handles, and other parts to ensure safe use.
