Office Chair Backrest Opening
The method for opening the backrest of an office chair varies depending on the chair type and design structure. Here are the common steps:

First, you need to locate the adjustment component. The adjustment component is usually located on the side of the seat near the connection with the backrest or under the seat. Common forms include round knobs, levers, or push-button switches. Some high-end office chairs have the adjustment controls placed on the armrests for easier operation. Different forms of adjustment components correspond to different operation methods. Accurately locating and identifying the adjustment component is the first step in opening the backrest of the chair.
Next, operate the adjustment component.
- If the adjustment component is a lever or button, you need to pull it up or press it down while leaning back with your body. At this time, the backrest will change due to gravity or manual angle adjustment. For example, when you press the button and lean back, the backrest will gradually open with your body movements to reach a suitable angle.
- If the adjustment component is a knob, the operation is relatively more complex. Generally, you rotate the knob clockwise or counterclockwise, but some knobs need to be pulled up to unlock before rotation. After rotating to the desired angle, release the knob to complete the locking. For instance, first pull up the knob to unlock, then rotate it clockwise to adjust the backrest angle. After adjustment, release the knob, and the backrest will be fixed at the current angle.
- There is also a situation where you need to flip a handle. First, flip the handle, then lean back slightly with your back. After releasing the handle, the backrest can be fixed at the corresponding angle. If you want to adjust the backrest back, continue to flip the handle while applying a little force with your back, and the backrest will spring back to its original position. The operation to flatten the backrest usually involves a lever under the right armrest. Pulling the lever will flatten the backrest.
Finally, confirm the locking. After adjusting the backrest angle, you need to gently push the backrest to check if it slides. If the backrest does not slide after a gentle push, it means the locking is successful. At this time, the backrest is stable at the adjusted angle and can be used normally. If the backrest slides, you need to readjust and lock it again to ensure that the backrest can be stably maintained at the desired angle.
