Office Chair Backrest Making
There are mainly three ways to make office chair backrests: making cute and practical lumbar support backrests, simple three-dimensional backrest chairs (origami), and DIY seat backrest covers.

Making Cute and Practical Lumbar Support Backrests
You can refer to the cutting diagram and use leftover fabric scraps for making. First, join the front sleeve pieces. Add seam allowances during the joining process and make notches at the turns so that it will be smoother when turning it inside out. Add a small amount of silk wadding to the joined parts. Then, make notches at the front, back, ear positions, and the centerline. Determine that the starting position of the ears is at four inches, move forward another one inch and eight-tenths, mark the ear positions well, and make notches. Next, sew the front sleeve pieces to the front piece. When making the back piece, align the sleeves with the bottom edge of the back piece. You can iron it before adding the silk wadding. Start sewing the front and back pieces from the bottom, leaving about 10 centimeters unsewn in the middle of the bottom. Pay attention to evenly distributing the fabric during sewing. Finally, adjust the whole piece and place the ears in appropriate positions.
Simple Three-Dimensional Backrest Chairs (Origami)
Prepare a square piece of paper. First, fold the top and bottom edges to align with each other, and then fold them towards the centerline in the same way. Press out the creases and then open the whole thing up. Turn it over and fold the two corners inward along the creases by one grid. Fold the whole thing downward along the centerline to align. Press a crease to the right of the intersection of the creases, and then do the same on the left side. Fold upward along the three creases. Fold the top edge with the double-colored border downward and tuck the corner into the gap to lock it. After overall adjustment, the three-dimensional backrest chair is folded.
DIY Seat Backrest Covers
- Preparing the Fabric: The width of the back fabric is the width of the chair back, and the length is measured from the bottom of the seat board to the height of the backrest. The width of the backrest side seam is the thickness of the backrest board, and the length is twice the length of the first piece of fabric plus the width of one piece of fabric. The width of the front of the backrest is the width of the chair back, and the length is measured from the top of the seat board to the height of the backrest. The width of the seat board cover is the innermost part of the seat board (the marked line position) + twice the thickness of the seat board, and the length is the length of the seat board + the thickness of the front end of the seat board.
- Sewing Steps: Connect the back fabric and the backrest side seam, and connect the front of the backrest and the seat board cover (leave the thickness of the seat board on both sides). Use clips to fix the two connected parts or roughly sew them with a hand-sewing needle and then sew them together on a sewing machine. Try the folded corner at the front of the seat board cover on the chair first, use clips to form the folded corner, sew according to the position of the clips, try it again after sewing, and if there is no problem, cut off the excess fabric. Do the hem at the bottom, and sew the lace directly onto the upper part of the hem.
