Office Chair Backrest Installation

Admin October 19, 2026

The steps for installing the backrest of an office chair depend on the chair type and specific structure. Below are common installation methods and precautions:

I. Installation Steps for Ordinary Backrest Chairs

  1. Frame Assembly: Align the crossboard of the backrest chair with the side frame. Place wooden dowels (or metal nuts) into the pre-drilled holes in the crossboard. Insert the matching screws through the holes in the side frame and crossboard, and rotate the screws to complete the initial fixation. Ensure that the screws match the nuts to avoid slippage.
  2. Backrest Installation: Align the backrest panel with the mounting holes on the frame. Insert screws from the inside of the frame through the holes and tighten them with nuts on the outside of the backrest. If the backrest and frame have a snap-fit design, align the snaps before pressing to secure them.
  3. Reinforcement Check: After installation, gently shake the backrest to test its stability. If there is any looseness, retighten the screws or adjust the position of the nuts.

II. Installation Steps for Wooden Chair Backrests

  1. Dowel Fixation: Take out the small wooden dowels from the accessory pack and insert them vertically into the pre-drilled holes in the crossbar. Gently tap them with a rubber mallet until they are fully embedded and flush with the surface of the crossbar. Avoid using excessive force to prevent the dowels from breaking or the holes from cracking.
  2. Armrest and Backrest Connection:
    • When installing the armrests, position the large hole outward and align the side with three holes with the mounting position on the backrest, with the large hole of the crossbar at the bottom and the small hole at the top.
    • Use medium-sized screws to initially fix the connection between the armrests and the backrest (do not tighten them yet). The installation method is the same for both sides.
  3. Overall Fixation:
    • Insert long screws through the crossbar (the bottom support structure of the chair) and screw them upward into the pre-drilled eyelets on the seat surface, forming a double fixation with the medium-sized screws.
    • After all screws are inserted, first tighten the medium-sized screws below the armrest backrest to half depth, then fully tighten the long screws, and finally tighten the remaining medium-sized screws. Tighten the screws in a diagonal order to avoid uneven stress on the frame.

III. Key Precautions

  1. Refer to the Manual: The installation methods for backrests of office chairs from different brands may vary significantly. Be sure to read the product manual first or contact the merchant for video guidance.
  2. Tool Preparation: Before installation, prepare tools such as screwdrivers, rubber mallets, and wrenches to avoid interruptions due to missing tools.
  3. Safety Check: After installation, check that all screws are tightened and the backrest is stable to prevent tipping or looseness during use.

If you encounter issues such as mismatched holes or screws that cannot be inserted during installation, stop the operation immediately and contact after-sales service. Do not force the installation to avoid damaging the parts.
