Office Chair Backrest Damage Repair
Targeted repair measures can be taken for office chair backrest damage based on specific issues:

1. Breakage at the backrest connection Use a 92mm 304 stainless steel connecting plate, an M5 stainless steel screw set, 35mm stainless steel zip ties, and AB glue or metal adhesive. First, mix the glue in a 50:50 ratio, apply it to the broken area, and wait 10 minutes for it to dry thoroughly. Align the connecting plate with the position and mark the drilling points. Drill 2 holes on each side of the broken area to distribute the pressure. You can use a cordless drill or a soldering iron for drilling. After tightening the screws, reinforce any areas that are not fully fitted with zip ties and tighten them with pliers. Fix the sides with zip ties in the same way. Finally, cover the repair marks with carbon fiber stickers to enhance the aesthetics.
2. Backrest cannot stand upright This is often due to a hydraulic system failure. Lay the chair on its side and inspect the transmission components. If the toggle is normal but the hydraulic mechanism has come loose, you need to replace it with a 10*1 standard screw (the original screw is a non-standard part). You can use a tap to repair the threads or directly screw in the new screw with a wrench, keeping the length at 30 millimeters (the original one is shorter). When installing, add a nut to prevent loosening and adjust the position with washers to avoid interfering with the movement range of the hydraulic rod.
3. Loose backrest
- Inspection method: Test the amount of wobble by leaning back. If there is an abnormal noise, it is mostly due to loose screws on the adjustment rod. If the rebound is weak, the spring or the gas rod may be aging. Use a flashlight to observe the gap at the connection below the backrest.
- Repair plan:
- Loose screws on the adjustment rod: Unscrew the plastic cover on the base counterclockwise and tighten 6-8 metal fixing screws symmetrically with a wrench (operate at 90ยฐ intervals to prevent misalignment).
- Spring detachment: Use needle-nose pliers to reset the slipped spring hook. If the spring is deformed, purchase a spring of the same diameter (3-5mm) online for replacement (measure the original length).
- Excessive gap in the gas rod: Remove the dust cover and rotate the black adjustment knob counterclockwise. Test the rebound resistance every 30ยฐ until it reaches an appropriate state.
- Emergency treatment: If you have no tools, you can cut a 3cm-wide tape from a bicycle inner tube and wrap it around the joint, or use rubber bands to tie the joints of the gas rod to maintain stability for 3-7 days.
4. Other types of damage
- Loose screws: Simply tighten the corresponding screws.
- Broken connecting rod: Purchase a metal rod according to the material and size for replacement and fix it by welding or with special connecting parts.
- Deformed support structure: Use tools to slowly correct the shape and restore the support function.
- Fabric damage: For small areas, sew with fabric of the same color. For large areas, remove the old fabric, cut new fabric to wrap it, and fix it with glue or nails.
- Failed spring: Turn the chair over, remove the old spring, install the new one, and ensure it is firmly fixed.
