Office Chair Backrest Broken

Admin October 09, 2026

For a broken office chair backrest, targeted repair measures can be taken according to the specific damage situation. Here are common types of damage and repair methods:

Loose Screws

If the backrest wobbles or falls off due to loose screws, this is a relatively common and easy-to-handle issue. Prepare an appropriate screwdriver, find the loose screws, and tighten them. When tightening the screws, pay attention to applying moderate force to avoid stripping the screws or damaging other parts of the chair due to excessive force.

Broken Connecting Rod

When the connecting rod of the backrest breaks, it needs to be repaired according to its material and size. Go to a hardware store to purchase a metal rod of the corresponding specification for replacement. If the broken part can be welded, use welding to firmly connect the new metal rod to the original structure; if welding is not suitable, use a special connector for fixation to ensure a firm connection that can withstand the normal usage pressure of the backrest.

Deformed Support Structure

A deformed support structure of the backrest will affect its normal use and comfort. Try to use appropriate tools, such as pliers and wrenches, to carefully correct the shape. During the correction process, proceed gradually to avoid further damage to the support structure due to excessive force. After correction, check whether the backrest can resume its normal support function.

Torn Fabric

For a torn fabric on the backrest, if the torn area is small, you can purchase fabric similar in color to the chair and sew it up with a needle and thread. When sewing, pay attention to making the stitches dense to make the repaired area more firm and aesthetically pleasing. If the torn area is large, you can remove the fabric of the entire backrest, cut a suitable piece of fabric for wrapping, and then fix the new fabric with glue or nails to ensure it is flat and firm.

Loss of Spring Elasticity

If the spring of the backrest loses its elasticity, causing the backrest to be unable to rebound normally, consider replacing the spring. First, turn the chair over, find the fixing points of the spring, and carefully remove the old spring. When installing the new spring, ensure it is firmly installed and can function normally to restore good rebound elasticity to the backrest.

Broken Connection at the Backrest of a Computer Chair

Prepare one 92mm 304 stainless steel connecting plate, one set (several) of 304 stainless steel flat-head screws M5, stainless steel straps with a length of 35mm, and AB glue or metalworking glue. First, use AB glue (in a ratio of 50:50) or metalworking glue to bond the broken part and wait for 10 minutes for the glue to dry. After it is dry, use the connecting plate to estimate the position and mark the hole positions with a marker pen. Two holes are needed on each broken side to share the pressure. Use a lithium-ion drill or soldering iron to make the holes. Tighten the screws of the connecting plate. If the measurement on the other side is not accurate, you can use stainless steel straps to tighten it and pull it tight with pliers. Also, tighten the stainless steel straps on the side of the broken part. Finally, put the accessories back in place. For aesthetics, you can cover the repaired part with carbon fiber stickers.
