Repair Methods for a Broken Office Chair Backrest

Admin October 12, 2026

If the backrest of an office chair is broken, targeted repair methods can be adopted according to the damage situation:

If the connecting components are loose, such as when the backrest wobbles or comes off, it is usually caused by loose screws. In this case, prepare a screwdriver of the appropriate model and tighten the loose screws one by one. If the nuts are found to be worn during inspection, replace them with new ones in a timely manner to ensure the stability of the connecting parts and prevent further loosening in the future.

If the backrest components are cracked, the repair method should be selected according to the degree of cracking. For minor cracks, strong adhesive can be used for bonding repair. Before operation, thoroughly clean the cracked surface to remove dust, oil stains, and other impurities to ensure the bonding effect of the adhesive. After evenly applying the adhesive, precisely align and paste the cracked surfaces and wait for the adhesive to fully dry and cure in a dry and well-ventilated environment. If necessary, use a heavy object to apply appropriate pressure to help the adhesive cure better. If the cracking is more severe, find a suitable piece of wood or plastic board, accurately measure its size according to the shape and size of the backrest, and fix it to the outside of the broken part of the backrest with screws or nails to provide reinforcement and support. When using screws for fixation, pay attention to the depth and angle of drilling to avoid damaging other parts of the backrest. If metal pipes or wooden strips of the same specifications as the original support structure can be found, replace the damaged support structure. First, cut them to the appropriate length and then use tools to install them in place. Welding or screw connections can be used to ensure a tight connection and restore the support capacity of the backrest.

If the upholstery of the backrest is damaged, if the damaged area is small, purchase fabric similar in color to the chair and sew it up with a needle and thread. If the damaged area is large, remove the upholstery of the entire backrest, cut a new piece of fabric of the appropriate size, wrap it around, and fix it with adhesive or nails to restore the neat appearance of the backrest.

If the frame of the backrest is deformed, use tools such as a hammer and wrench to carefully correct its shape and restore its normal support function. During the correction process, pay attention to applying an appropriate amount of force to avoid further damage to the frame due to excessive force.

If the springs of the backrest lose their elasticity, causing the backrest to be unable to rebound normally, first turn the chair over, find the fixing points of the springs, carefully remove the old springs, and then install new springs. Ensure that they are firmly installed and can function normally.
