Office Chair Backrest Broken

Admin October 12, 2026

Repair methods for a broken office chair backrest can be selected based on the type of breakage and the material:

I. Repair Using Tools and Materials This method is suitable for cases where the breakage surface is large or there is structural damage. You will need to prepare a 92mm 304 stainless steel connecting plate, M5 stainless steel flat-head screws, 35mm stainless steel zip ties, and AB glue or casting resin. The specific steps are as follows:

  1. Glue the broken surfaces together and wait for 10 minutes for complete curing.
  2. Align the connecting plate with the break, mark the hole positions, and then drill holes using an electric drill or soldering iron.
  3. Tighten the screws to secure the connecting plate, and on the other side, tighten and pull the zip ties.
  4. Reinforce the broken side with additional zip ties and finally cover the repair marks with carbon fiber stickers. This method enhances structural strength through mechanical connections and is suitable for metal or hard plastic backrests.

II. Simple DIY Repairs

  1. Wooden/Plastic Backrests:
    • After cleaning the broken surfaces, glue them together using white glue or a specialized adhesive.
    • Reinforce the inside of the break by attaching wooden strips or binding ropes for secondary support.
    • For wooden chairs, you can hammer small wooden blocks in front and behind the break for support.
  2. Metal Frame Cracks:
    • Requires professional welding equipment. First, sand the break until the metal shines.
    • After welding, sand the weld points and apply anti-rust paint. This method requires a high level of technical skill.
  3. Collapsed Cushioning or Loose Connections:
    • Remove the outer cover and replace the collapsed foam or sponge.
    • Tighten all loose screws or connectors using a screwdriver.
  4. Glue Bonding with Auxiliary Fixing:
    • After bonding, use adjustable clamps or tape to fix the area for 24 hours to ensure complete curing of the adhesive layer.

III. Other Temporary Solutions

  1. Purchase a fabric chair cover to conceal the break, but avoid excessive leaning.
  2. Weave a mesh structure on the backrest using ropes for support.
  3. Contact a rattan weaving workshop for repairs (suitable for wooden or rattan backrests).
  4. If the break is near the bottom, you can saw off the backrest and convert it into a square stool (consider practicality).

Precautions:

  • Before repairing, assess the extent of the breakage. If the structure is severely damaged, it is recommended to replace the backrest or chair directly.
  • Metal welding requires professional operation. Non-professionals are advised to choose mechanical reinforcement methods.
  • After glue bonding, keep the environment dry to avoid affecting the curing effect. If there are still safety hazards after repair, replace the chair promptly.
