Office Chair Backrest Breakage
Admin October 09, 2026
If the backrest of an office chair breaks while reclining, stop using it immediately. Take targeted measures based on the cause of the breakage, contact after-sales service first, and carry out professional repairs or reinforcements if necessary.

I. Analysis of Breakage Causes
- Improper Use: Frequent and large-scale reclining, overloading (e.g., the Sihoo V1 has a load capacity of 120 - 150kg), long-term placement of heavy objects, or improper pulling can lead to structural fatigue or instantaneous damage. The common breakage site is the connection between the backrest and the base.
- Quality Issues: Material defects (such as thin tube walls or low-quality plastics), problems in welding or injection molding processes, or stress concentration during assembly can easily result in micro-cracks at stress concentration points (such as adjustment mechanisms) and subsequent breakage after long-term use.
- Aging and Wear: After long-term use, loose screws, aging and brittleness of plastic parts, or worn-out buckles can lead to unstable connections and breakage under stress.
II. Handling Steps
- Stop Using and Inspect: Stop using it immediately to avoid secondary damage or safety hazards. Check whether the breakage site has sharp edges to prevent scratches.
- Contact After-sales Service: Apply for repair or replacement through official channels. Provide purchase vouchers (order number, invoice) and photos of the breakage site. If it complies with the warranty policy (usually 1 - 3 years), it can be handled free of charge.
- Precautions for Self-handling:
- Do not use strong adhesives like 502 or weld the metal frame by yourself. This may lead to secondary breakage due to insufficient strength or structural changes.
- For temporary fixation, ropes or tapes can be used, but professional personnel should be contacted as soon as possible.
III. Targeted Repair Methods
- Inspection of Connecting Components: Tighten the loose screws in the reclining part and replace missing or damaged nuts and other components.
- Spring Inspection: If the spring breaks or loses its elasticity, replace it with a new spring of the matching specification.
- Hydraulic Rod Inspection: If there is oil leakage, replace the hydraulic rod. If it is stuck, clean the surface dust and apply lubricating oil.
- Professional Repair: For complex internal structural failures (such as damage to the hydraulic system), it is advisable to contact professional repair personnel.
IV. Repair and Reinforcement Plans (Select According to the Type of Damage)
- Breakage of Wooden/Plastic Backrests: Glue the broken surfaces with white latex glue and reinforce the inside with wooden strips or ropes. For wooden chairs, small wooden blocks can be nailed at the breakage site for support.
- Breakage of Metal Frames: Clean and polish the breakage site and then weld it. Polish the weld points and carry out anti-rust treatment (professional tools and techniques are required).
- Sagging of Fillers or Loose Connections: Replace the sagging sponge fillers. Tighten the loose screws and other connecting parts.
