Office Chair Backrest Adjustment
Admin October 09, 2026
The adjustment methods and angle selection suggestions for the adjustable backrest of an office chair are as follows:

I. Basic Adjustment Operations
Angle Locking and Resetting
- The adjustment handle is usually located on the right side of the seat. After sitting down, pull the handle, lean back slightly with your back to the target angle, and release the handle to fix it. To reset, pull the handle again and gently push your back to make the backrest spring back to its original position.
- If you need to fully flatten the backrest (e.g., for a lunch break), look for the lever below the right armrest. Pulling it will allow the backrest to be laid flat to a nearly horizontal position.
Swing Amplitude Adjustment
- The black cylinder in front of the chair's gas lift is the swing control device. Rotating it left or right can adjust the amplitude of the backrest's forward and backward swing to suit different sitting postures.
Rebound Force Adjustment
- Some chairs have a knob at the bottom. Rotating it clockwise increases the rebound force when the backrest leans back, while rotating it counterclockwise decreases it. Users can adjust it according to their weight or usage habits.
II. Suggestions for Reclining Angle Selection
Different reclining angles have varying adaptability to health and scenarios, and adjustments should be made according to actual needs:
- 90ยฐ Right Angle State: The backrest is perpendicular to the seat surface, suitable for focused office work or writing. This angle helps maintain the natural upright position of the spine, reducing pressure on the lumbar and cervical vertebrae and preventing fatigue from prolonged sitting.
- 100ยฐ Slight Recline State: The backrest is slightly tilted backward, suitable for surfing the Internet, watching movies, or playing casual games. This angle can disperse body weight, reduce the burden on the shoulders and neck, and keep the line of sight level with the screen to protect vision.
- 125ยฐ Half-Reclining State: The backrest has a relatively large tilt angle, suitable for short naps. This angle can relax the whole body's muscles, but attention should be paid to head support to avoid aๆฌ็ฉบ (hanging in the air) neck.
- 155ยฐ Deep Sleep Mode: Some high-end chairs support an angle close to lying flat, which is only recommended for lunch breaks or short rests. Long-term use may cause uneven force on the spine and lead to discomfort in the lower back.
III. Precautions
- Ensure the chair is in a stable state before adjustment to avoid tipping over due to operation.
- Adjust the rebound force gradually to avoid leaning back too quickly due to excessive force.
- It is recommended to use a headrest when reclining deeply to reduce neck pressure.
- Regularly check the tightness of the adjustment components to prevent looseness and potential safety hazards.
