Office Chair Backrest Adjustment

Admin October 17, 2026

The methods for adjusting the backrest of an office chair vary depending on the adjustment mechanism, as detailed below:

Lever Adjustment System:
First, locate the adjustment lever, typically positioned beneath the seat near the right or left side. If the chair has a recline lock feature, you must first unlock it by gently pulling or pushing the lever. Then, shift your weight backward while adjusting the lever to achieve a comfortable recline angle for the backrest. If the chair supports angle locking, once you reach the desired angle, pull or push the lever again to lock the position.

Knob Adjustment System:
Locating the knob is a crucial step; in most cases, it is situated near the center of the seat's underside, close to the support column. When adjusting the recline tension, turning the knob clockwise usually increases the backrest's recline resistance, while turning it counterclockwise decreases it. You can adjust the backrest's tilt according to your body weight and preferences. Some chairs may have a separate knob for adjusting the recline angle, in which case you should refer to the product manual for instructions.

Pneumatic Adjustment System:
The pneumatic lever is typically arranged alongside the height adjustment lever, and recline is adjusted by pushing it in different directions. When using it, gently pull the lever to adjust the backrest to a comfortable angle. Some chairs may allow you to adjust the front-to-back rocking amplitude by rotating the black cylinder at the front of the air rod, which should be fine-tuned according to your actual needs.

General Adjustment Steps:
After sitting on the office chair, locate the adjustment handle. Pull the handle, lean back slightly with your back, and release the handle to fix the angle; if you need to return to the original position, continue pulling the handle and apply slight pressure with your back, and the backrest will spring back. The flat-back function is usually located beneath the right armrest and is activated by a pull rod; the front-to-back rocking amplitude can be adjusted by rotating the black cylinder at the front of the chair's air rod.

Precautions:
Before adjusting, confirm the type of chair and its adjustment mechanism to avoid damage from incorrect operation. If the chair has a locking function, be sure to lock the position after adjusting the angle to ensure safety during use.
