Office Chair Backrest Adjustment

Admin October 10, 2026

There are several common ways to adjust the backrest of an office chair:

Method 1: Adjustment via the Adjustment Handle

Some office chairs are equipped with an adjustment handle on the underside or side of the backrest. To adjust, first locate this adjustment handle, then pull the handle. This releases the locked position of the backrest. Next, lean back slightly with your back, allowing the backrest to tilt to a comfortable angle along with your body. Once you reach the desired angle, release the handle, and the backrest will be fixed at that angle. If you want to return the backrest to an upright position, continue to pull the handle while applying a bit of force with your back, and the backrest will spring back to its initial upright position under the action of the spring. This method is relatively simple to operate, enabling quick adjustment of the backrest angle through the combination of handle pulling and body force.

Method 2: Adjustment via the Under-Chair Regulator

Some office chairs have a regulator installed under the chair. To adjust, locate this regulator under the chair; it is usually a component that can move up and down. Then, pull the regulator upward. While pulling the regulator, apply force backward with your back, causing the backrest to tilt as your body leans back. Keep applying force and observe the tilt of the backrest until the chair reaches the desired tilt. After that, release the hand controlling the regulator, and the backrest will be fixed at the current angle. This method requires a certain amount of force and accurate coordination between pulling the regulator and leaning back.

Method 3: Adjustment via Buttons

Some office chairs use a button-based adjustment method. There is a button on one side of the chair (usually the right side). When you push the button inward, the chair is in a locked state. In this state, you can only adjust the height of the chair up and down, and you cannot achieve reclining or backrest angle adjustment. When you pull the button outward, the chair is in an unlocked state. At this time, you can adjust the seat to your preferred reclining angle according to your needs. After adjusting the angle, push the button inward to lock it, and the backrest will be fixed at the current angle, ensuring stability during use. This method allows for easy locking and unlocking of the backrest angle through simple button operations.
