Adjustable Backrest of Office Chair

Admin October 17, 2026

There are mainly the following ways to adjust the backrest of an office chair:

I. Conventional Angle Adjustment Most office chairs control the backrest angle through a handle. The specific operation steps are as follows:

  1. Locate the adjustment handle: It is usually located under the seat or on the side, with some designs placed under the right armrest.
  2. Unlock and adjust: After pulling the handle, lean back slightly with your back, and the backrest will tilt with the movement; release the handle to fix the current angle.
  3. Return to the original position: Pull the handle again, lean forward slightly with your back, and the backrest will automatically rebound to its initial position due to the spring or gravity mechanism. This method is suitable for scenarios where you need to briefly adjust your sitting posture or lean back for a rest. It is simple to operate and allows for flexible angle fixing.

II. Backrest Reclining Function Some office chairs support fully reclining the backrest, forming a shape similar to a recliner. The adjustment method is as follows:

  • Lever control: Locate the lever under the right armrest or on the side of the seat. Pull it up or push it down (depending on the design), and the backrest will gradually recline to a nearly horizontal position.
  • Reset operation: Return the lever to its original position, and the backrest will usually automatically rebound or need to be manually pushed back to an upright position. This function is suitable for lunch breaks or scenarios where you need to briefly lie down. However, it is important to check whether the chair has a locking mechanism to ensure safety.

III. Advanced Adjustment of Ergonomic Chairs Some high-end ergonomic chairs (such as the Heibai Diao E3 Ultra fifth generation) offer more precise adjustment functions:

  1. Headrest adjustment: The headrest can be locked and unlocked by pushing it forward and backward. Push the headrest forward to unlock it, push it back to the appropriate position and lock it, supporting multi-position adjustment; when pushed to the frontmost position, it unlocks, and the middle positions can be fixed.
  2. Lumbar support and backrest linkage: The backrest and lumbar support of some models can be adjusted simultaneously. By rotating or sliding the control module, the support force and angle can be individually matched. Such designs aim to meet the needs of users with different body types for neck and lumbar support, improving comfort during long periods of sitting.

Precautions:

  • Before adjusting, ensure that the chair structure is stable to avoid damage caused by excessive force.
  • If the chair is equipped with a pneumatic rod, keep your body's center of gravity stable when adjusting the height to prevent sudden lifting or lowering from causing accidents.
  • Regularly check the flexibility of the adjustment components (such as handles and levers), and apply lubricating oil for maintenance if necessary.
