Office Chair Back Repair

Admin October 22, 2026

The repair method for an office chair back should be selected based on the type and extent of the damage. Common repair methods are as follows:

Repair of a Broken Plastic Chair Back
If the chair back is made of plastic and has broken, a reinforcing rib repair method can be used. First, use an electric drill to evenly create a row of small holes on the broken surface. Mark the hole positions with correction fluid and replicate the same hole positions on the other broken surface. Next, make a homemade adhesive: melt chopped foam board in gasoline, add baking soda to increase viscosity, and then add spray paint according to the color of the chair back for color matching. Dip rivets into the adhesive and insert them into the small holes. Coat the broken surfaces with the adhesive and fix them, ensuring that the adhesive fully penetrates the gaps. After initial fixation, fill the broken gaps with a mixture of graphite rod powder and baking soda, and then apply 502 glue for secondary reinforcement to enhance structural strength. Finally, sand the repaired area until smooth and spray paint of the same color as the chair back to restore its appearance integrity.

Repair of a Loose Chair Back
If the chair back is loose due to the falling off of the cushion nut, first locate the loose part. Use a hole opener to enlarge the hole to an appropriate size and clean out any remaining fragments of the original nut and debris from the hole. Select a new screw that matches the original screw, screw it into the hole, and initially fix it. To prevent the nut from rotating, use a cable tie to tightly bind the nut to the chair back structure to ensure its stable position. Before the adhesive (such as AB glue) is fully cured, adjust the tightness of the screw to avoid difficulties in subsequent adjustment due to glue adhesion. After the glue is completely dry, test the stability of the chair back to ensure there is no wobbling.

Repair of a Loose Tilted Backrest of an Executive Chair
For high-end office chairs such as executive chairs, if the backrest is loose and tilted, it may be caused by the falling off of connecting screws or slight deformation of the bracket. A comprehensive inspection is required during repair: First, check the connection part between the backrest and the bracket to confirm whether the screws are loose or missing. If the screws are damaged, replace them with reinforced screws. If the bracket is deformed, use a hydraulic straightening tool or manual tapping for correction. In severe cases, welding reinforcement is required. During reassembly, ensure that the screws are tightened to the specified torque, there are no gaps between the bracket and the backrest, and test whether the backrest adjustment function is normal to avoid tilting or jamming.

Precautions
Before repair, disconnect the power supply (such as for electrically adjustable chairs) and wear protective gloves and goggles to avoid injury during operation. If the damage to the chair back involves internal gas rods or complex mechanical structures, it is recommended to contact professional repair personnel to prevent secondary damage or safety hazards due to improper operation.
