Office Chair Back Reclining

Admin October 13, 2026

The methods for reclining the backrest of an office chair vary depending on the type, as detailed below:

Regular Office Chairs

  • Locate the Adjustment Lever: Regular office chairs are typically equipped with an adjustment lever, usually positioned on the right side of the seat. After sitting in the chair, pull the lever to release the locked position of the backrest.
  • Recline the Backrest: While pulling the lever, gently lean back with your back. The backrest will tilt backward with your movement. Once the backrest reaches your desired angle, release the lever, and the backrest will remain fixed at that angle, providing you with a comfortable reclining position.
  • Return to Upright Position: If you need to adjust the backrest back to its original upright position, pull the adjustment lever again while relaxing your back. The backrest will spring back to its original position. Some regular office chairs have a pull rod under the right armrest; pulling this rod can also flatten the backrest.

Folding or Lounge Chairs

  • Identify the Folding Mechanism: Most folding chairs have their backrests and seats connected by hinges, and some chairs have buckles at the folding points. Before operating, identify the folding mechanism of the chair and understand how to unlock the folding buckles.
  • Operate the Folding Switch:
    • Buckle Type: For buckle-type folding chairs, press the plastic buckle where the backrest connects to the seat while adjusting the angle of the backrest to allow it to recline smoothly.
    • Pull Rod Type: For pull rod-type folding chairs, lift the metal pull rod under the seat. The backrest will fold automatically or manually, and you can adjust it to the desired angle as needed.
  • Adjust and Lock the Angle: Some lounge chairs have multi-angle adjustment functions. After adjusting the backrest to the desired angle, ensure that the buckle is securely engaged in the corresponding notch to keep the backrest firmly fixed and prevent it from wobbling during use.

Operation Precautions: Before operating, make sure the chair has a reclining function. Some simple chairs may not have this design, and forcing operation may damage the chair. Additionally, it is not advisable to lie down on an office chair for an extended period after reclining it, as some office chairs are primarily designed for reclining rather than lying flat. Prolonged lying down may affect the chair's lifespan and even pose safety risks.
