Office Chair Avoidance Guide

Admin October 09, 2026

When choosing an office chair, pay close attention to the following key points to avoid affecting your user experience and health due to missing features or material defects:

1. Adjustable Lumbar Support
Avoid chairs with fixed lumbar supports, as they cannot accommodate different heights and body types. A qualified lumbar support should allow for at least 4 centimeters of vertical adjustment to ensure the lumbar spine can align with the support point, reducing fatigue from prolonged sitting. If the lumbar support is too high or too low, it may compress the ribs or fail to support the tailbone, leading to lumbar muscle strain over time.

2. 3D Adjustable Headrest
Fixed headrests only move up and down and cannot adapt to the cervical curve when sitting upright or reclining. A high-quality headrest should offer height, forward/backward, and angle adjustments to ensure cervical support in various sitting positions. For example, when reclining, the headrest should move forward to support the neck, preventing concentrated pressure on the cervical spine due to suspension.

3. Frame Material Affects Durability
Mesh fabric offers excellent breathability and is suitable for prolonged use, but pay attention to its elasticity and tension to avoid sagging and deformation. PU leather is easy to clean but has poor breathability, making it prone to heat buildup in summer. For gas cylinders, choose products certified by SGS or BIFMA (Grade 3/4), which have undergone 200,000 durability tests to eliminate the risk of explosion. For the base, prioritize gravity-sensing models that automatically adjust the reclining force based on body weight, avoiding the inconvenience of manual knob adjustments or poor adaptability.

4. Practical Adjustment Features
Seat depth adjustment is essential to prevent leg compression or suspension caused by a fixed seat depth. Armrests should support 4D or higher adjustments (e.g., AutoFull 360ยฐ mechanical arms) to ensure natural relaxation of the elbows and shoulders. If you need to nap, the reclining angle should exceed 135 degrees and support multi-level locking to avoid discomfort from insufficient angles or instability during rest.

5. Beware of Marketing Gimmicks
For daily office use with prolonged sitting, there is no need to pursue flashy features. Focus on three practical functions: adjustable seat depth, adjustable backrest height, and reclining armrests. For example, some chairs claim to have โ€œmassage functionsโ€ or โ€œsmart sensors,โ€ but these are rarely used and prone to damage, representing typical premium traps.

6. Verify Long-Term Durability
Avoid relying solely on product specifications or short-term test sits to judge quality. Pay attention to whether the seat cushion is prone to sagging, whether the mesh fabric is loose, whether the armrests wobble, and whether there are unusual noises when reclining. For example, foam seat cushions with a density below 40kg/mยณ are prone to deformation, and mesh fabric without reinforced edges is prone to fraying.

7. Donโ€™t Overlook After-Sales Service and Details
Confirm the warranty period (at least 3 years is recommended), whether consumables (e.g., gas cylinders, wheels) are covered, and the convenience of repair methods. Complex installation or missing parts can increase usage costs. Checking long-term user reviews can reveal common quality issues (e.g., wheel jamming, base noise).
