Office Chair Assessment
Admin October 08, 2026
The key points of office chair assessment cover five aspects: design objectives, material characteristics, functional roles, structural safety, and relevant standards.

Design Objectives: Ergonomics is the core, requiring adaptation to the natural curves of the human body to reduce fatigue from prolonged sitting. For example, the curve of the chair back should fit the physiological curvature of the spine, distributing pressure and avoiding localized stress concentration.
Material Characteristics:
- Seat Cushion: High-density foam balances support and resilience, suitable for long-term use; mesh fabric is breathable but offers weak support, requiring a lumbar support; leather is affected by temperature and requires consideration of the usage scenario.
- Seat Surface: Mesh fabric offers good breathability but insufficient support; hard plastic can lead to fatigue, both being unsuitable for prolonged sitting.
- Other Components: The five-legged base is primarily made of steel, with wall thickness meeting safety standards (e.g., 1.5mm or 2.0mm); the gas lift must pass BIFMA certification and TUV testing to ensure stability during height adjustment.
Functional Roles:
- Lumbar Support: Adjustable in height to fit different lumbar curvatures, with moderately soft or hard material and slight angle adjustment to conform to changes in sitting posture, but the width should avoid a one-size-fits-all design.
- Recline Locking: Supports reclining for rest, relieving pressure on the waist, and requires a stable locking mechanism.
- Armrests: Adjustable in height to match elbow height, supporting the forearms; 360ยฐ rotation design accommodates multiple scenarios, avoiding excessive softness that leads to insufficient support.
- Sit-Stand Alternation: Some office desks support height adjustment, promoting blood circulation and reducing lumbar pressure.
Structural Safety:
- Under-Desk Clearance: Must be โฅ65cm to prevent leg collisions.
- Gas Lift: Must pass static load and fatigue tests to avoid explosion risks, with priority given to BIFMA-certified products.
- Five-Legged Base: Steel material and reasonable wall thickness ensure load-bearing capacity and prevent tipping.
Relevant Standards:
- Seat Height Adjustment Range: According to GB/T 10357.2-2013, a recommended range of 400-500mm is suitable for users of different heights.
- BIFMA Testing: Covers durability (thousands of sit-down/stand-up tests), stability (tilt and lateral pressure tests), safety (structural strength tests), and comfort (ergonomic assessment and pressure distribution tests) to ensure comprehensive product performance meets standards.
