Office Chair Assembly Tilt

Admin October 17, 2026

After assembling an office chair, a tilt issue may arise, which could be caused by wheel problems or assembly problems. Here are the specific causes and solutions:

Wheel Problems

  • Check the wheel status: Place the chair upright and ensure that each wheel foot is in contact with the ground. Invert the chair and inspect each wheel foot for signs of damage. The casters may bend or break due to uneven weight distribution, manufacturing defects, or general wear and tear. If one of the wheel feet at the bottom of the chair that can rotate vertically and horizontally is bent or deformed, the chair will tilt in its direction.
  • Replace damaged wheels: If damaged wheels are found, purchase a new set of matching wheels. You can contact the chair manufacturer for the model number to place an order, or take one of the old wheels to an office supplies store to find a matching replacement set. Pay attention to matching the shape and size of the wheel axles. When removing the casters, hold the caster wheel with one hand and the bottom of the chair with the other hand and pull firmly. If it is stuck, insert the blade of a flat-head screwdriver into the small gap between the wheel foot and the chair contact point and use it as a lever to operate slowly back and forth. Pull it out about 1 centimeter (0.39 inches) and then pull again. A very small number of casters are fixed to the bottom of the chair with screws. When you see the screw head, use a screwdriver to loosen the screw and remove the caster.
  • Lubricate and install new wheels: Apply a small amount of spray lubricant (such as WD - 40) to each socket on the chair base. Insert the straw into the spray nozzle and insert it into each socket for a quick spray, about half a second per socket. If you don't have a lubricant spray, apply a pea-sized amount of petroleum jelly to each wheel axle. Use a rubber mallet to tap each caster into its chair socket. Align the caster rod with the intended base, push gently with your hand first, and if that doesn't work, tap gently with a rubber mallet until the rod is fully inserted into the base. If the caster design allows tapping near the base of the stem, prioritize this area to reduce the risk of the new caster deforming or breaking. Turn the chair upside down and sit on it to test the new wheels. If they roll smoothly and evenly and no longer tilt to one side, the job is done. If it still tilts, continue to check if the seat plate is damaged.

Assembly Problems

The assembly steps vary for different types of office chairs, and improper assembly can lead to tilting. For example, when assembling the W901 angled-foot chair, place the gasket between the crossbar and the foot frame, and fix the various components with screws of different specifications in the correct order. After leveling the chair, sit on it and press down. Tighten the screws only after the chair is stable. Office chairs installed by Luban Home also have their specific assembly processes. If the assembly steps are incorrect, it may affect the chair's balance and cause tilting. It is necessary to strictly follow the instruction manual or the correct assembly process for operation.
