Office Chair Assembly Method

Admin October 11, 2026

The assembly method for an office chair typically includes the following steps, which should be performed in order and with attention to detail:

1. Install the casters and chair base
Align each caster with the mounting holes on the chair base and press vertically until fully engaged, ensuring each caster is securely installed. Afterward, insert the gas lift (height adjustment rod) vertically into the center hole of the chair base, ensuring the bottom of the gas lift fits snugly against the base. Pay attention to the orientation of the gas lift; usually, the end with the adjustment button faces upward.

2. Secure the seat plate and seat
Place the seat plate (the component connecting the seat cushion to the gas lift) on the bottom of the seat, align the screw holes, and temporarily secure it with screws. Key detail: Initially screw each screw in by 3-4 turns to ensure the seat plate is centered and not misaligned, then tighten the screws one by one to avoid tilting the seat plate due to unilateral force. Some seat plates need to be oriented front to back; adjust according to the curvature of the seat or markings.

3. Connect the backrest and seat
Align the connecting rod or clip of the backrest with the corresponding interface on the seat, insert vertically, and press lightly until fully engaged. If the chair design requires reinforcement with angle brackets (L-shaped fasteners), use screws to secure the angle brackets to the sides of the backrest and seat, ensuring no wobbling at the connection. Note: Some backrests require pre-installation of cushions or adjustment mechanisms; complete assembly before connecting.

4. Install the gas lift and seat assembly
Align the assembled seat (including the seat plate) with the top of the gas lift and press down vertically until the bottom of the seat cushion is fully seated in the hole of the seat plate. If the chair has a separate base design (e.g., an independent seat cushion with armrests), insert the base vertically onto the gas lift and check for stability. Safety tip: Avoid tilting the gas lift during operation to prevent gas leakage or component damage.

5. Secure the armrests and backrest
Align the bottom sides of the backrest with the armrest mounting slots on the sides of the seat cushion, insert vertically, and secure the bottom of the backrest with screws from the bottom of the armrest brackets. Then, align the mounting holes on the back of the backrest with the corresponding holes on the seat brackets and tighten the screws with a wrench to ensure a firm connection between the backrest and seat. Detail: Ensure screw types match (e.g., B screws for the bottom of the armrests, C screws for the back of the backrest) to avoid cross-threading.

6. Install the headrest (if applicable)
Align the connecting rod of the headrest with the mounting hole at the top of the backrest and press vertically until the clip clicks, indicating it is secure. Some headrests require additional reinforcement with screws through the mounting clip; insert and tighten the screws from the back of the backrest. Check: After installation, slide the headrest up and down to test the adjustment function for smooth operation.

Precautions:

  • Before assembly, check the parts list to ensure all small components such as screws and angle brackets are present.
  • Avoid using excessive force during operation to prevent part deformation or thread damage.
  • Some chairs require adjusting the height of the gas lift or the tilt of the backrest according to the instructions; perform a functionality test after assembly.
