Office Chair Assembly by Employees
Admin October 16, 2026
The assembly of office chairs by employees can be carried out according to the following steps, applicable to most common models with gas lift rods and five-star bases:

I. Pre-assembly Preparation
- Environment and Unboxing: Choose a well-lit, flat area for unboxing to prevent parts from scattering or getting lost.
- Inventory of Parts: Include a five-star base (chassis), casters (5 pieces), gas lift rod, seat plate (chassis), seat cushion, backrest, armrests, screw package, and installation tools.
- Tool Preparation:
- Core Tools: Screwdrivers (Phillips/flat-head) that match the screw types, or a low-torque electric screwdriver, and an Allen wrench.
- Auxiliary Tools: A rubber mallet (for installing the gas lift rod), and a tape measure (for adjustments).
II. Six-Step Core Assembly Method
Install the Five-Star Base and Casters
- Place the five-star base face up, take one caster, align the metal rod with the base hole, and press vertically until you hear a 'click' indicating it is secure; if it is a threaded type, tighten it clockwise.
- After installation, gently shake the five-star base to check if the casters are secure, avoiding potential safety hazards due to looseness.
Install the Gas Lift Rod
- Ensure the center hole of the five-star base is facing up, insert the thicker end (with a hole) of the gas lift rod vertically into the center hole, and press firmly to the bottom.
- Note: If there is a plastic protective cap on the top of the gas lift rod, remove it in advance; otherwise, it will affect the installation depth.
Install the Seat Chassis (Seat Plate)
- Flip the seat cushion over so that its bottom is facing up, locate the pre-installed screw holes (usually 4), and remove the pre-installed screws.
- Align the holes on the seat plate, distinguish the front and back directions (the side with the height adjustment lever is the front), and initially screw in all screws by hand.
- Use the 'diagonal tightening method': first tighten two screws on the diagonal, then tighten the other two, repeating this process 2-3 times to ensure the seat plate is evenly stressed and not skewed.
Connect the Seat to the Gas Lift Rod
- Lift the seat with the installed seat plate, align the center hole of the seat plate with the top of the gas lift rod, and smoothly fit it down vertically to ensure tight contact without wobbling.
III. Key Precautions
- Gas Lift Rod Safety: Avoid inserting it at an angle during installation to prevent damage to the internal seal of the gas lift rod, which could lead to air leakage or failure of the height adjustment function.
- Screw Tightening: The screws on the seat plate need to be tightened step by step and synchronously to avoid the seat tilting or the chassis deforming due to over-tightening on one side.
- Caster Types: For press-in casters, ensure the clips are fully embedded; for threaded types, check the insertion depth to prevent them from falling off.
IV. Subsequent Step Tips If the backrest or armrests need to be installed, they are usually fixed to the back of the seat with screws, and the armrests are connected to both sides of the seat plate with Allen screws. Specific operations should refer to the accessory instruction manual.
