Office Chair Assembly and Disassembly Tutorial

Admin October 10, 2026

The assembly and disassembly of an office chair should be carried out according to the correct steps. It is recommended to assemble from the bottom up and disassemble in the reverse order of assembly. During the process, pay attention to safety and use appropriate tools.

Assembly Tutorial

  1. Component Identification and Preparation
An office chair typically consists of parts such as chair legs, casters, a base, a seat, a gas lift, a backrest, armrests, and a headrest. Before assembly, ensure that all components are complete and check that small accessories like screws and corner brackets are intact.

  2. Bottom-Up Assembly

    • Chair Legs and Casters: Press or rotate the five casters into the five holes on the chair legs respectively, ensuring that the snaps or threads are fully engaged.
    • Gas Lift Installation: Insert the gas lift vertically into the center hole of the chair legs, ensuring that the bottom fully contacts the internal structure of the chair legs.
    • Base and Seat: Use screws to fix the base to the bottom of the seat. Make sure the screws are tightened to prevent looseness. Some models require four long screws to connect the base and the seat plate.
    • Backrest Connection: Connect the backrest to the seat using corner brackets or slots and fix the connection with screws, ensuring that the angle between the backrest and the seat meets the design requirements.
    • Overall Assembly: Insert the seat (including the base) vertically into the top of the gas lift. A clicking sound or confirmation of no wobbling indicates that the assembly is in place.
    • Armrests and Headrest: Depending on the model, the armrests may be fixed to the sides of the seat or the bottom of the backrest with screws; the headrest is directly inserted into the reserved hole at the top of the backrest and pressed slightly.

Disassembly Tutorial

  1. Safety and Order Principles
Disassembly is more difficult than assembly. It is not recommended unless necessary. Loosen the screws step by step in the reverse order of assembly, focusing on the separation of the seat and the gas lift, and the gas lift and the chair legs.

  2. Step-by-Step Disassembly Method

    • Backrest Separation: First, unscrew the screws or corner brackets at the connection between the backrest and the seat and remove the backrest.
    • Seat and Gas Lift Separation: Raise the gas lift to the highest position. Hold the seat cushion with one hand and press the height adjustment lever with the other hand while shaking. Once loose, pull it out vertically. If it is stuck, lightly tap the bottom of the seat to assist in separation.
    • Gas Lift and Chair Leg Separation: Turn the chair legs upside down and lightly tap the bottom of the gas lift with a rubber mallet (if a rubber mallet is not available, use a wooden board as a cushion for tapping) to avoid damaging the chair legs with direct force.
    • Other Components: Armrests and headrests are usually fixed with screws or snaps. Turn them counterclockwise or press the snaps to remove them; the screws connecting the base and the seat need to be completely unscrewed before separation.
  3. Precautions
Wear gloves during disassembly to prevent scratches and avoid using excessive force that may deform the components. If encountering stubborn connections, spray a small amount of lubricant to assist in loosening.
