Office Chair Assembly and Disassembly Process

Admin October 09, 2026

The assembly and disassembly process of an office chair can be divided into two parts: assembly and disassembly. The specific steps and precautions are as follows:

Assembly Process

  1. Assembling the Chair Base and Gas Lift
Place the chair base flat on the ground, ensuring the central hole faces upwards. Insert the gas lift vertically into the central hole and press gently until it is fully embedded. Make sure the gas lift is aligned with the hole in the chair base to avoid tilting and instability.

  2. Securing the Chair Seat
Align the bottom of the chair seat with the top of the gas lift and press down slowly. A clicking sound indicates that the latch is locked. For chairs with adjustable tilt functions, install the tilt control handle simultaneously to ensure proper functionality.

  3. Connecting the Chair Back and Armrests

    • Pre-assembled Chair Back: Adjust the angle to vertical and secure it directly to the chair seat with the latch.
    • Separate Chair Back: Use screws to fix the chair back to the metal bracket at the rear of the chair seat, ensuring the screws are tightened to prevent loosening.
    • Armrest Installation: Align the screw holes on both sides of the chair seat and tighten the armrests with screws, ensuring symmetry on both sides.
  4. Installing Additional Components

    • Headrest: Insert it into the reserved hole at the top of the chair back and rotate to the desired height.
    • Lumbar Support: Attach it to the designated position on the chair back using Velcro or latches.
    • Casters: Press firmly into the holes at the ends of the chair base until a clicking sound indicates installation is complete.

Disassembly Process

  1. Detaching the Chair Back
Loosen the screws or latches connecting the chair back to the seat. For a separate chair back, turn the screws counterclockwise until fully detached; for a pre-assembled chair back, press the latch release mechanism.

  2. Removing the Seat Base
Raise the gas lift to its highest position. Hold the seat with one hand and press the height adjustment lever with the other while shaking gently to separate the base from the gas lift. Be cautious with the force applied to avoid damaging the components.

  3. Removing the Gas Lift
Invert the chair base and tap the bottom of the gas lift with a rubber mallet. If a rubber mallet is unavailable, use a wooden board as a cushion to reduce impact damage to the chair base. For gas lifts that have been in use for a long time and may be tightly fitted, tap lightly multiple times until loosened.

  4. Disassembling Other Parts
Follow the reverse order of assembly to loosen the screws on the armrests, headrest, and other parts. For example, remove the armrest screws first, then take off the headrest, and finally separate the remaining small components.

Precautions

  • Safe Operation: When disassembling the gas lift and chair base, which may be tightly fitted due to long-term use, it is advisable to wear gloves and use tools to avoid scratches or injuries.
  • Component Inspection: Before assembly, check the component list to ensure nothing is missing or damaged. After assembly, inspect the structural stability (e.g., whether the chair base wobbles), functional normality (e.g., whether height adjustment and tilt functions are smooth), and safety details (e.g., whether screws are tightened).
  • Tool Preparation: Prepare tools such as screwdrivers and rubber mallets according to the component types to ensure a smooth disassembly process.
