Office Chair Assembly and Disassembly Guide

Admin October 10, 2026

The assembly and disassembly of an office chair can be carried out according to the following steps. The installation and disassembly steps are opposite, and attention should be paid to safety and details:

Assembly Steps

  1. Install Casters and Chair Base
Attach each caster to the five legs of the chair base one by one, ensuring the clips are secure. After installation, insert the gas lift vertically into the center hole of the chair base. Make sure the bottom of the gas lift is fully flush with the chair base to avoid tilting and subsequent wobbling during use.

  2. Install the Seat Plate and Seat
Use the provided screws to fix the seat plate to the bottom of the seat. Pay attention to the orientation of the seat plate (usually marked with a 'front' indicator or a groove corresponding to the front of the seat). Tighten the screws until they are snug to prevent the seat plate from separating from the seat.

  3. Connect the Backrest and Seat
Align the metal bracket of the backrest with the slot or screw hole at the rear end of the seat and secure it with screws or clips. For some backrests, you may need to insert them into the dedicated interface on the seat plate first and then tighten the screws for reinforcement.

  4. Install the Seat Assembly and Gas Lift
Align the assembled seat part (including the seat plate and backrest) vertically with the top of the gas lift and press down slowly until it is fully embedded. Ensure that the height adjustment lever of the gas lift faces the user's right hand side for easy operation.

  5. Install Armrests and Headrest
Armrests are usually fixed to the sides of the seat or the bottom of the backrest with screws. Choose the corresponding holes according to the design. If the headrest is adjustable, insert its bracket into the slot at the top of the backrest and lock it with screws or clips.

Disassembly Steps

  1. Remove the Seat Assembly and Backrest
First, loosen the screws or clips connecting the backrest and the seat to separate the backrest. Then, raise the gas lift to its highest position. Hold the seat with one hand, press the height adjustment lever with the other hand, and shake it to loosen the seat assembly from the gas lift before pulling it out.

  2. Separate the Gas Lift from the Chair Base
Invert the chair base and gently tap the bottom of the gas lift with a rubber mallet (or use a wooden board as a cushion if a rubber mallet is not available) to separate the gas lift from the chair base. If the clips are too tight, you can spray a small amount of lubricant to assist in disassembly.

  3. Remove Armrests and Headrest
If the headrest is fixed with screws, use a screwdriver to unscrew them and remove the headrest. For armrests, remove the screws on the back frame or the sides of the seat according to the design. Some armrests may need to be lifted first and then pulled out backward.

  4. Disassemble the Seat and Seat Plate
Turn over the seat and use a screwdriver to unscrew the screws connecting the seat plate and the seat to separate the seat plate. If the seat plate is fixed to the seat with clips, insert a flat tool (such as a bank card) into the gap and pry it open.

Precautions:

  • Wear gloves when disassembling the gas lift to avoid metal scratches or sudden ejection of the gas lift.
  • For office chairs that have been used for a long time, the gas lift and the chair base may be adhered due to rust. You can spray rust remover before disassembly.
  • All screws should be stored separately to avoid loss or confusion.
