Office Chair Assembly and Disassembly

Admin October 22, 2026

The assembly and disassembly of office chairs must be carried out strictly according to the steps to ensure safety and stability. Here are the specific assembly and disassembly processes and precautions:

Assembly Process

  1. Install Casters: Align the casters with the holes on the chair base (five-star base) and insert them. Some may need to be tightened with a screwdriver. If the casters are snap-on type, ensure a 'click' sound is heard to confirm engagement; for threaded types, simply rotate and tighten.
  2. Install Gas Lift: Insert the gas lift vertically into the center hole of the chair base, ensuring it is fully embedded and does not wobble. The gas lift is the core component supporting seat height adjustment, so choose a specification that matches the chair base.
  3. Secure the Seat Plate: Use screws to fix the seat plate to the bottom of the seat. Ensure the screws are tightened until there is no gap between the seat plate and the seat to prevent loosening during subsequent use.
  4. Attach the Backrest: Align the backrest with the seat through the pre-drilled screw holes and secure it with matching screws. Some backrests may need to be adjusted to the desired angle before tightening to ensure the backrest is perpendicular to the seat.
  5. Assemble the Whole Chair: Align the seat with the top of the gas lift and insert it. A 'click' sound or increased resistance indicates successful connection. When installing armrests, align the directions (such as left and right markings) and secure them with screws; the headrest can be directly inserted into the top hole of the backrest.
  6. Check Stability: Press down firmly on the seat and shake the backrest to test the stability of all connections. Test the height adjustment function of the gas lift by sitting and lifting to ensure there is no jamming or abnormal noise.

Disassembly Process

  1. Detach the Backrest: Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws connecting the backrest to the seat and remove the backrest. If the screws are rusted, a small amount of lubricant can be sprayed to assist in disassembly.
  2. Remove the Seat: Raise the gas lift to its highest position, hold the edge of the seat with one hand, and press the height adjustment lever with the other hand while gently shaking to separate the seat from the gas lift. Some models may require the lever to be pulled from underneath the seat; adjust the gesture according to the instructions.
  3. Separate the Gas Lift: Invert the chair base and lightly tap the bottom of the gas lift with a rubber mallet, or place a wooden board underneath and tap with a hammer to remove it from the chair base. Prolonged use may result in tight engagement, so operate patiently to avoid damaging the chair base.
  4. Replace Casters:
    • Snap-on Type: Flip the office chair, hook the iron core of the wheel with an iron nail, and lightly tap the tail of the iron nail to loosen the snap-on mechanism and remove the wheel.
    • Threaded Type: Unscrew the screw on top of the wheel and rotate the wheel to remove it.

Precautions

  • When disassembling the gas lift and chair base, as they may be tightly engaged due to prolonged use, it is recommended to wear gloves to prevent scratches and avoid violent tapping that may deform the components.
  • The operation of the height adjustment lever requires a combination of pressing and pulling actions. Some models may require the lever to be pulled from underneath the seat; confirm the operation method in advance.
  • Damaged casters cannot be repaired; prepare spare wheels in advance. If the gas lift is damaged, replace it with a model of the same specification to avoid affecting the height adjustment function.
