Office Chair Assembly and Disassembly
Admin October 09, 2026
The assembly and disassembly of office chairs require following specific steps. Ensure safety during operation and properly store small parts.

Assembly Steps
- Install the chair base and casters: Attach each caster to the corresponding hole on the chair base, ensuring a secure fit. Then, vertically place the gas lift cylinder in the center of the chair base. The gas lift cylinder is a crucial component for adjusting the chair's height, so it must be placed vertically to provide stable support for subsequent components.
- Secure the chassis and seat: Use screws to fasten the chassis to the seat, tightening the screws to prevent the chassis from loosening, which could affect safety during use. The chassis usually has adjustable functions, such as tilt angle adjustment, which can only function properly if installed correctly.
- Connect the backrest and seat: Link the backrest and seat through a specific connecting structure to form the upper part of the chair. Ensure that the angle between the backrest and seat is appropriate, conforming to ergonomic design to provide a comfortable sitting experience.
- Install the seat base: Vertically insert the seat part onto the gas lift cylinder, ensuring it is fully inserted and securely connected. You can gently shake the seat at this point to check if it is firmly installed.
- Install the armrests and headrest: Finally, attach the armrests and headrest. Most armrests are fixed with hexagon socket screws, requiring the use of tools of the corresponding size to tighten the screws. The installation method for the headrest varies by model; follow the instructions to complete the assembly.
Disassembly Steps
- Separate the backrest and seat: First, loosen the screws connecting the backrest and seat, selecting the appropriate tool based on the screw type, such as a screwdriver or hexagon socket wrench. After loosening the screws, carefully separate the backrest from the seat.
- Remove the seat base and gas lift cylinder: Raise the gas lift cylinder to its highest position, hold the seat cushion with one hand, and press the lift lever with the other hand while shaking it a few times to remove the seat base. For disassembling the gas lift cylinder and chair base, invert the chair base and gently tap the connection between the gas lift cylinder and chair base with a rubber mallet, or tap the side of the connection between the seat base and seat cushion to separate them.
- Remove the armrests: Most armrests are fixed with hexagon socket screws. Use the corresponding tool to unscrew the screws and then remove the armrests.
- Handle other components: Gradually loosen and remove other screw-connected components, such as the screws connecting the chassis and seat, in the order they were installed. Store small screws and parts in a small box for easy handling later.
Precautions: Pay attention to safety during disassembly to avoid damaging components or getting injured. For office chairs that have been used for a long time, the connection between the gas lift cylinder and chair base may be tight, so exercise extra caution during disassembly.
