Office Chair Armrest Test
Admin October 22, 2026
The office chair armrest test primarily focuses on the mechanical properties of the entire chair, material safety indicators, and appearance and workmanship quality, covering three core aspects: test scope, test items, and sample pre-processing.

Test Scope includes four levels:
- Basic Performance: Mechanical properties of the entire chair, material chemical safety, coating and covering layer quality, and dimensional accuracy and assembly workmanship.
- Special Mechanism Expansion: If the office chair armrest has rotation, height adjustment, or tilt functions, additional tests are required for mechanism functionality and durability, including positioning reliability after repeated adjustments (e.g., whether height adjustment is smooth or stutters, whether rotation is smooth) and abnormal noise (e.g., whether abnormal friction or loosening sounds occur during adjustment).
Test Items focus on the armrest and related components:
- Armrest Components:
- Vertical Static Load: A loading pad is pressed against the most unfavorable positions on the front and middle of the armrest, and a specified force (e.g., 1000N) is gradually applied vertically downward, held for a period, and then released to check for fractures, looseness, or permanent deformation.
- Lateral Static Load: A specified force (e.g., 500N) is applied laterally outward to simulate lateral leaning scenarios and assess structural stability.
- Armrest Durability Cyclic Loading: Repeated loading at a specified frequency (e.g., 10 times/minute) simulates long-term arm pressure to detect performance degradation caused by cumulative damage.
- Related Components: The seat and backrest require static load, fatigue durability loading, and impact tests; the stability of the entire chair requires testing for backward, forward, and lateral anti-tipping capabilities.
- Material Safety: Tests for formaldehyde emission, soluble heavy metals, prohibited azo dyes, and pH value are conducted to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
- Appearance and Workmanship: Evaluation of coating adhesion strength, electroplated layer corrosion resistance, stitching quality, and dimensional deviations.
Sample Pre-processing requires standardized operations:
- Submission Requirements: The entire chair should be submitted for testing along with unassembled materials from the same batch to avoid assembly differences affecting results.
- Environmental Conditioning: Before testing, samples should be placed in a specified temperature and humidity environment (e.g., 23โยฑ2โ, 50%RHยฑ5%) until stable to prevent moisture content differences from interfering with mechanical and chemical tests.
- Sampling Specifications: For chemical analysis, samples should be taken from non-stressed concealed areas (e.g., the inside of the chair back); fabrics and leathers should be cut into standard sample blocks with their positions noted; separate samples should be prepared for mechanical testing of the entire chair and chemical analysis.
- Handover Management: Samples should be registered with their numbers and appearance conditions to prevent transportation damage or source confusion.
