Office Chair Armrest Sewing

Admin October 10, 2026

Office chair armrest sewing mainly involves making covers for the armrests to enhance comfort, protect the armrests, and add a personal touch. The key steps and techniques are as follows:

Sewing Difficulties and Material Selection

Modern office chairs often use highly elastic mesh fabric. The sewing difficulty lies in the fabric's tendency to deform and slip easily. Therefore, special presser feet and feeding mechanisms are required during sewing, along with special edge-binding techniques to ensure a good sewing result. For materials, options include cotton velvet, flannel, old curtain fabric, etc. These materials are soft and comfortable, suitable for making armrest covers.

Measurement and Cutting

Accurate measurement is the crucial first step in making armrest covers. Key data to obtain includes length, width, and height. For curved parts, it is recommended to use the "step-by-step cutting" method or measure every 10 centimeters along theๆ‹ผๆŽฅๅ— (spliced pieces) and mark accordingly. When cutting the fabric, be sure to leave an extra 1-2 centimeters of seam allowance on all dimensions for sewing and adjustments.

Production Methods

  • Quick Transformation Using Old Towels: Fold the towel horizontally to form a double layer. Fold one end towards the middle by about one-third. Cut an appropriate opening at the corner formed by the folding according to the shape of the front end of the armrest. Place the cut towel directly over the armrest and adjust it to be flat. This method is simple and quick, suitable for temporary use or emergencies.
  • Sewing of Fabric Armrest Covers: Draw theๅฑ•ๅผ€ๅ›พๆ ท (expanded pattern) of the armrest cover on the reverse side of the fabric according to the measured dimensions (including seam allowances) and cut it out. Fold the fabric with the reverse side facing inwards or stitch the edges together, leaving the bottom open. For special three-dimensional structures, sew them separately and then attach them to the main body. Decorative elements such as lace or frills can be added to the edges to enhance aesthetics. Finally, turn the sewn cover inside out through the reserved opening and iron it flat with a low-temperature iron.

Anti-Slip Techniques

To prevent the armrest covers from slipping, the following techniques can be employed:

  • Size Fit: Accurately measure the armrest dimensions and make covers that are slightly tight to provide basic friction.
  • Utilize Elasticity: Use elastic thread to sew the edges or directly choose knitted fabrics with elasticity to increase the elasticity of the covers.
  • Increase Friction: Sew relevant materials such as rubber pads or anti-slip fabric on the inside of the covers to increase friction.
