Office Chair Armrest Replacement
Admin October 19, 2026
The replacement of office chair armrests requires selecting the appropriate method based on the degree of damage, structural type, and connection method. The specific steps are as follows:

I. Assess the Degree of Damage
- Minor Damage Can Be Repaired: If the armrest only has surface cracks or local fractures, choose a repair method based on the material. For cracks in solid wood armrests, use woodworking glue to fill them and fix them for 24 hours until the glue is completely cured. For local fractures in plastic or metal armrests, use epoxy resin glue for bonding. After bonding, maintain pressure until the glue solidifies.
- Complete Fracture Requires Replacement: If the fracture surface of the armrest is large or the structural damage cannot be repaired, purchase a replacement part of the same model. Prioritize contacting the furniture manufacturer to obtain original parts. If they cannot be matched, look for similar-sized models in the hardware market, but ensure that the interface parameters (such as screw hole positions, diameters, and angles) are exactly the same.
II. Remove the Old Armrest
- Removable Structure: The armrests of most panel furniture are connected to the chair body with screws. When removing them, find the screw holes at the bottom and use a screwdriver of the corresponding model to unscrew the screws counterclockwise. The fixed armrests of some old ergonomic chairs can be upgraded to 3D armrests, but measure in advance whether the hole positions of the chair body and the armrests match.
- Handling Mismatched Hole Positions: If the hole positions of the new armrest do not match the original ones in size, modify the hole positions on the chair body. For example, some users have converted the fixed armrests of old ergonomic chairs into adjustable-height armrests by enlarging or re-drilling holes, which takes about 30 minutes. When modifying, pay attention to maintaining the symmetry of the hole positions to avoid affecting structural stability.
III. Install the New Armrest
- Simple Structure Installation: Align the new armrest with the hole positions on the chair body and use a screwdriver to tighten the screws clockwise to ensure a firm connection. After installation, check if the armrest wobbles. If there is looseness, readjust the tightness of the screws.
- Complex Structure Handling: If the armrest involves internal structures such as gas rods and adjustment devices (such as the gas rod armrests of some office chairs), it is recommended to contact after-sales service or professional repair personnel for handling. Such structures require special tools for disassembly, and the matching requirements for parts are high. Self-operation may cause gas rod leakage or adjustment function failure.
IV. Precautions
- When purchasing a replacement armrest, be sure to confirm that the interface size exactly matches the original chair to avoid installation failure due to hole position deviations.
- When modifying hole positions or disassembling complex structures, it is recommended to take photos of the original structure as a reference to prevent inability to restore it after disassembly.
- If the chair is still within the warranty period, prioritize contacting the manufacturer for repair to avoid affecting warranty rights due to self-operation.
