Office Chair Armrest Repair

Admin October 11, 2026

There are mainly three methods for repairing office chair armrests: ordinary crack repair, modification repair, and broken-end wooden plug repair. Details are as follows:

Ordinary Crack Repair

For ordinary cracks on office chair armrests, follow these steps. First, use a nail gun to connect and reinforce the broken position to ensure the crack is initially fixed and prevent further damage. Then, repair and sand the crack and nail gun marks to make the surface smooth and flat, preparing for subsequent coloring. Next, mix colors according to the original color of the armrest to create a similar hue, ensuring color consistency after repair. After that, proceed with coloring and wood grain painting to match the repaired area with the surrounding wood grain. Finally, apply a topcoat for protection and beautification.

Modification Repair

If you want to perform modification repair on an office chair armrest, you need to prepare tools and materials such as rosewood offcuts, a coping saw (or handsaw), a hand plane, sandpaper, a screwdriver, a utility knife, a pencil, wood wax oil (or paint), and woodworking glue. The specific steps are as follows:

  • Disassemble the Armrest: Carefully remove the armrest surface from the chair armrest, taking care to avoid damaging the armrest surface support plate during the process.
  • Draw the Model: Place a thick piece of cardboard flat on a table. Place the old armrest surface (support plate) horizontally and vertically on the cardboard. Use a pencil to draw the thickness outline of the old armrest surface on the cardboard, and then use a utility knife to cut out the outline pattern. Then, place the patterned cardboard on the pre-cut small square wood pieces and draw the outline on each piece of small square wood with a pencil.
  • Assemble the Armrest Board: Use a coping saw (or handsaw) to cut out the wood pieces along the outline. Place the two sets of cut wood pieces in the designed order on a woodworking table. Apply glue on the sides, and after applying the woodworking glue, clamp them tightly with woodworking clamps. Wait for 24 hours for the glue to dry completely, and then remove the clamps.
  • Create the Shape: Flatten the back of the assembled armrest surface with a small hand plane. If the bottom is concave, use coarse sandpaper to smooth it. Then, place the old armrest surface (support plate) on the assembled wooden panel, draw the size outline with a pencil, and use a coping saw to cut out the shape of the armrest surface. Finally, sand and paint (or apply wood wax oil), and install the made wooden armrest surface on the armrest.

Broken-End Wooden Plug Repair

First, fix the broken end. Drill several holes in the cross-section and insert well-matched wooden plugs. After the glue dries, use fine sandpaper to sand repeatedly along the wood grain to make the surface flat. Then, mix colors and sand until the surface is smooth and clean. Apply tung oil for protection, and then use a dye pen to trace and blend at the repaired area to make the newly added part blend completely with the original wood color.
