Office Chair Armrest Reinforcement

Admin October 14, 2026

The method for reinforcing office chair armrests should be selected based on the cause of looseness and the structural type. Common handling methods are as follows:

I. Reinforcement of Ergonomic Chair Armrests

  1. Loose Screw Handling If the screws connecting the armrest to the chair body are loose, use the corresponding tool (such as an Allen wrench or Phillips screwdriver) to tighten the screws again. If the screws are stripped (the threads are worn and cannot be fixed), replace them with new screws of the same specification to avoid damaging the connecting parts by forcing them tight.

  2. Rotating Shaft Wear Repair If the looseness is caused by internal wear of the armrest rotating shaft, replace the rotating shaft parts. Most brands of ergonomic chairs provide matching after-sales parts, which can be purchased from the official customer service for replacement with the same model. Align the rotating shaft positions during installation to avoid secondary wear.

  3. Snap-fit Structure Reinforcement Some armrests are fixed with snap-fits. If the snap-fits are loose or deformed, insert small clips or shims into the snap-fit gaps to increase the bite tightness. If the snap-fits are severely damaged, contact the manufacturer to replace the entire snap-fit assembly.

II. Reinforcement of Armrests for Other Types of Office Chairs (such as Folding Chairs)

  1. Fracture Repair (Wooden Armrests) If the armrest is broken, follow these steps:
  • Temporary Fixation: Use strong woodworking glue to align and bond the broken edges to ensure initial stability.
  • Reinforced Connection: Use an electric drill to drill holes above the break at an angle. After injecting sufficient glue, insert a well-shaved hardwood dowel (the diameter should match the hole diameter) and gently tap it in completely with a hammer.
  • Surface Treatment: After the glue is completely dry, use a small spatula to cut off excess wood dowels to make the surface flat. Then use sandpaper to smooth out burrs and spilled glue. Finally, use fine sandpaper to polish along the grain and mix and apply matching raw lacquer for touch-up.

Precautions:

  • Confirm the structural type of the chair before operation to avoid further damage caused by misuse of methods.
  • When replacing parts, prioritize original factory parts to ensure compatibility and safety.
  • For wooden armrest repairs, wait for the glue to dry completely (usually more than 24 hours) to avoid secondary fractures caused by premature stress.
