Office Chair Armrest Molding
The molding methods for office chair armrests vary significantly depending on the material and process, with common types including polyurethane (PU) foam armrests and rattan armrests. Their molding principles and characteristics are as follows:

Polyurethane (PU) foam armrests utilize an integral foaming process, a one-time molding technology. The core principle involves injecting liquid polyurethane raw materials into a mold and initiating a foaming process through a chemical reaction. During foaming, a dense skin forms on the surface of the raw material, while a uniform cellular structure develops internally. This structure endows the armrests with dual characteristics: a smooth and warm surface feel, avoiding the cold sensation of metal or plastic materials; and an internal cellular structure that enhances grip comfort through cushioning while improving impact resistance. From a performance perspective, PU foam armrests offer advantages such as abrasion resistance, weather resistance, and acid-base resistance. Their chemical stability can withstand corrosion from daily use substances like sweat and cleaning agents, while the uniformity of the cellular structure ensures long-term durability without cracking or deformation. Additionally, the one-time molding process reduces joint seams, minimizing the risk of dirt accumulation and facilitating easy cleaning and maintenance.
The molding of rattan armrests relies on the physical properties of natural rattan and weaving techniques. Initially, the rattan undergoes preprocessing steps, including drying, insect prevention, and decay resistance treatments, to enhance its flexibility and durability. Subsequently, craftsmen bend the rattan into the desired arc or curve for the armrest, requiring precise control over bending force and angle to prevent breakage. Finally, the rattan is securely attached to the chair frame through cross-weaving or fixed nodes, forming a stable support structure. The advantages of rattan armrests lie in their natural eco-friendliness and excellent breathability. Their natural material can regulate humidity, making them suitable for prolonged use, while the texture variations brought by the weaving process impart a unique artistic aesthetic to the product. However, rattan armrests are sensitive to environmental humidity and should be kept away from prolonged exposure to damp or dry conditions to prevent deformation or cracking of the rattan.
The choice between the two molding methods depends on the usage scenario and requirements: PU foam armrests are more suitable for modern office environments, emphasizing durability and ease of maintenance; rattan armrests are better suited for scenarios pursuing a natural style or leisurely ambiance but require regular maintenance to extend their service life.
