Office Chair Armrest Maintenance
The maintenance of office chair armrests should focus on three aspects: adjustment part maintenance, cleaning, and wobble repair. The specific methods are as follows:

I. Adjustment Part Maintenance
If the adjustment parts of the office chair armrests (such as the internal rack of the height adjustment buckle) become loose or difficult to adjust, targeted treatment is required. First, use a screwdriver or an Allen wrench to disassemble the adjustment components, exposing the internal rack or gear structure. Next, use a cotton swab to dip a small amount of grease (such as white lithium-based grease) and evenly apply it to the surface of the rack and the gear engagement area, avoiding excessive application that could cause oil stains to seep out. Finally, reassemble and repeatedly adjust and test to ensure smooth operation without jamming. Note that the grease should be a special type that is heat-resistant and wear-resistant, avoiding the use of ordinary engine oil or butter to prevent dust absorption or corrosion of plastic parts.
II. Material-Specific Cleaning
Different materials of armrests require differentiated cleaning solutions:
- Leather Armrests: First, use a dry soft cloth or a vacuum cleaner to remove surface dust, avoiding scratches on the leather. Then, use a damp cloth (water temperature โค 40ยฐC) to gently wipe away stains, followed by spraying a dedicated leather cleaner and wiping in a circular motion with a sponge. Finally, apply a leather conditioner to form a protective film. Strictly avoid using alcohol, gasoline, or products containing bleach to prevent the leather from cracking and fading.
- Plastic Armrests: Dilute a neutral cleaner (such as dishwashing detergent) in a 1:10 ratio and use a soft cloth to dip and wipe the surface. For crevices, use a cotton swab dipped in cleaning solution to clean deeply. Stubborn stains can be lightly brushed with an old toothbrush. After cleaning, dry with a cloth and avoid direct sunlight to prevent aging.
- Fabric Armrests: First, use a vacuum cleaner on low setting to remove dust, focusing on the seams. For oil stains, immediately cover with baking soda powder, let sit for 10 minutes, and then lightly brush with a soft brush. For large stains, spray a fabric cleaner and brush along the texture with a slightly damp soft brush, then dry with a hairdryer on cool setting. Avoid soaking directly in water to prevent mold growth in the internal filling.
III. Wobble Problem Self-Check and Repair
If the armrest wobbles, follow these steps to troubleshoot:
- Tool Preparation: Flat-head/cross-head screwdrivers, Allen wrenches, wrenches, pliers, penetrating lubricant (such as WD-40), rubber bands, or screw extractors.
- Tighten Screws: Turn the chair upside down or sideways and check the screws/bolts at the connection between the armrest and the seat. Tighten them clockwise with a matching tool, applying even force to avoid stripping.
- Handle Stripped Screws: If the screw spins freely, place a rubber band between the screwdriver tip and the screw to increase friction and try to unscrew it. Alternatively, spray penetrating lubricant and wait 5 minutes before trying again. If still ineffective, use a screw extractor to remove the remaining nail, retap the hole, and install a thread insert.
- Replace Small Parts: Check if buckles, metal connectors, or elastic cords are worn or broken, and purchase a universal parts kit according to the model for replacement.
- Evaluate Repair Value: If only screws are loose or small parts are damaged, the repair cost is low. If the armrest body is cracked or deformed, or the repair cost exceeds 50% of the price of a new armrest, it is recommended to replace it directly.
During daily use, avoid placing heavy objects on the armrests or pressing down forcefully. Regularly inspect the adjustment mechanism and connecting parts to extend the service life of the armrests.
