Office Chair Armrest Instructions

Admin October 19, 2026

Office chair armrests come in various types and have adjustable functions. There are different usage suggestions for different scenarios, and attention should be paid to maintenance.

Types

  • Fixed Armrests: These are the armrests of the first-generation ergonomic chairs and cannot be adjusted in height or moved. If the desk does not match, their function is difficult to exert, and they are mostly used for decoration, providing a poor user experience during office work.
  • Multi-Dimensional Adjustable Armrests: Most chairs on the market fall into this category. Taking Daboli Ergosmart as an example, the height, front-back position, and inward and outward angles can be adjusted to meet work requirements flexibly.
  • Retractable Armrests: Previously used mostly in shuttle buses or cinema seats, they are now also adopted by some chairs. They can be retracted when not in use, but their function is not as flexible as that of multi-dimensional adjustable armrests, and frequent folding can increase wear and tear.

Adjustment Functions and Methods

  • Height Adjustment: The appropriate height allows the elbows to easily touch the armrests when the arms hang naturally, with relaxed shoulders. First, adjust the chair height so that the feet are flat on the ground, the knees are bent at about 90 degrees, and the hips are firmly seated on the chair surface. Then, place the forearms lightly on the armrests, keeping the shoulders hanging naturally and the elbows bent at about 90 degrees. Adjust the armrests up or down according to the situation and repeatedly fine-tune them until the best support feeling is achieved. Different heights have different recommended ranges. For example, for a height of 150 - 160cm, a range of 18 - 23cm is recommended, and for a height of 160 - 170cm, a range of 22 - 27cm is recommended.
  • Angle Adjustment: Some ergonomic chair armrests support angle rotation, allowing the tilt of the armrest surface to be adjusted inward or outward. This is suitable for users who frequently type or use a mouse, enabling the wrists to maintain a more neutral position during operation and reducing joint pressure. Usually, simply push the armrest surface to the desired angle by hand.
  • Front-Back Adjustment: This allows the armrests to move horizontally to meet the sitting posture needs of users with different body types. When the chair is close to the desk, adjust the armrests forward to avoid collision with the desk edge; adjusting them backward provides more spacious space.
  • Linked Adjustment: Some models of armrests support linked adjustment with the backrest or seat cushion. For example, when leaning back for a rest, the armrests automatically tilt along with it, providing continuous support. This is achieved through internal mechanical structures.

Usage Suggestions for Different Scenarios

When reading, working/writing, watching dramas/playing mobile games, or resting, you can adjust the height, angle, width, etc., of the armrests respectively to make them in a pigeon-toed state or provide reasonable support and cradling, making the use more comfortable.

Maintenance Methods

Avoid using scissors or knives to pierce the armrest surface; keep the button parts of the armrests clean; refuse overloading and do not use the armrests as seat cushions; when adjusting the armrests, ensure that all buckles or buttons are fully in place, regularly check the fastening parts, and perform maintenance in a timely manner if there is wear and tear. Avoid excessive force or forced adjustment.
