Office Chair Armrest Height Increase

Admin October 09, 2026

The height of office chair armrests can be increased through the following methods:

1. Use Armrest Pads
This is the most convenient and cost-effective method. Armrest pads are typically made of soft materials such as foam or memory foam, designed with specific angles and thicknesses to directly fit over the existing armrests, increasing their height while providing additional comfort. For example, there are specialized elbow-raising pads for gaming and office chairs on the market, priced between 12.83 yuan and 27 yuan, suitable for most general-purpose chairs. The advantages include not altering the original structure of the chair and being easy to install, but the height increase is limited, making it suitable for minor adjustments.

2. Install Wooden or Metal Height Increasers
If a significant increase in armrest height is needed, custom-made wooden or metal height increasers can be used. These accessories are installed beneath the chair's armrests to increase their height. The advantages include the ability to adjust the height according to personal needs and the durability of the materials. When choosing, consider the chair's material (such as metal frame or wooden structure), the original armrest design (such as curvature or width), and the usage scenario (such as office or gaming). Ensure that the height increasers are securely connected to the armrests during installation to avoid safety hazards caused by loosening.

3. Adjust Pneumatic Office Chairs
For chairs equipped with a pneumatic rod, the height of the armrests can be indirectly increased by operating the height adjustment lever beneath the seat. The specific steps are as follows: leave the seat or slightly lift your body, pull the lever upward and gently lift the seat cushion, using the elasticity of the pneumatic rod to raise it to the desired position before releasing the lever, which will automatically lock. If you are lightweight, you can stand and pull up the seat cushion to assist. This method is suitable for most modern office chairs, but pay attention to the weight-bearing capacity of the pneumatic rod to avoid damage from overloading.

4. Adjust Spiral Office Chairs
Older mechanical adjustment chairs or some fixed-height models may use spiral support rods. To adjust, rotate the knob at the bottom of the rod counterclockwise, and the seat will gradually rise; after reaching the target height, rotate it clockwise to tighten and secure. This method does not require additional accessories but requires manual operation and has a limited height adjustment range, making it suitable for scenarios where precision is not critical.

5. Use Auxiliary Tools for Height Increase (for non-adjustable chairs)

  • Install Height-Increasing Foot Pads: Choose metal or plastic foot pads with anti-slip designs and place them beneath the chair legs to increase the height by 5-15 cm, indirectly raising the armrest position. This method is suitable for fixed-height chairs that cannot be adjusted, but ensure that the foot pads are in stable contact with the ground to avoid sliding risks.
  • Replace with Longer Pneumatic Rods: If the original pneumatic rod is damaged or has insufficient travel, purchase a longer pneumatic rod of the same model for replacement. During operation, confirm that the diameter and length of the rod match, remove the base, install the new rod, and tighten it with tools. This method requires some manual skills and attention to safety to avoid injury from the sudden ejection of the rod.
