Disassembly and Washing of Office Chair Armrests

Admin October 16, 2026

To wash an office chair armrest, it first needs to be disassembled. The specific steps vary depending on the fixing method. Here are common methods and precautions:

I. Disassembly Steps for Different Fixing Methods

  1. Screw Fixing Method

    • Locate the Screws: Check the gaps at the bottom, sides of the armrest, or where it connects to the chair body. Find the screws hidden under plastic caps and pry open the caps with a tool.
    • Select the Right Tool: Choose a matching screwdriver or Allen wrench according to the screw slot (flat-head/cross-head) or the Allen key size to avoid slippage due to an ill-fitting tool.
    • Unscrew the Screws: Turn the screws counterclockwise with even force. If the screws are rusty, spray lubricant to assist. After unscrewing all the screws, gently lift or pull the armrest cover with both hands to separate it from the frame.
    • Keep the Screws Safe: Place the screws together to prevent loss.
  2. Snap-fit Fixing Method

    • Find the Gaps: Check along the joint between the armrest cover and the frame to locate the gaps or interfaces where the snaps are connected.
    • Use a Pry Bar: Insert a plastic pry bar or a hard plastic card into the gap. Start from one end and gently pry to release the first snap.
    • Separate Gradually: Move the pry bar along the gap and pry open the other snaps one by one. Keep the force even to avoid breaking the snaps by forcing them.
    • Remove the Parts: After all the snaps are released, take off the armrest cover. Avoid using metal tools throughout the process to prevent scratching the surface.
  3. Other Disassembly Methods (for Special Structures)

    • Prepare Tools: Spanner wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, etc.
    • Disassembly Steps:
      • Turn the chair over and use tools to disassemble the screws connecting the armrests. Clean the screws and nuts with a cleaning agent before disassembly.
      • Use pliers to bend the base hooks and loosen the bottom nuts to remove the armrests.
      • When disassembling adjustable armrests, first turn the screws at the bottom of the plug to reduce wire pulling, and then disassemble the connecting screws; skip this step for fixed armrests.

II. Precautions

  1. Tool Selection: For screw disassembly, ensure the screwdriver tip fits the slot tightly. For snap disassembly, a plastic pry bar is preferred.
  2. Be Gentle: Avoid scratching the chair or getting injured by falling objects. If you find loose screws, tighten them immediately.
  3. Check Stability: During disassembly, check the swing of the armrest and the connector. If it wobbles, check if the base is loose.
  4. Screw Management: Record the positions of the screws for easy alignment during reinstallation.
  5. Surface Protection: Avoid damaging the surface of the chair or the armrest. If any parts are damaged during disassembly, replace or repair them in a timely manner.
  6. Safety Precautions: If the chair has a power supply (such as an electrically adjustable model), disconnect the power before disassembly to prevent electric shock.
