Office Chair Armrest Disassembly

Admin October 19, 2026

The method for disassembling the armrest of an office chair mainly depends on its fixing method. There are two common types: screw fixing and snap-fit fixing. Here are the specific disassembly steps:

Screw Fixing Method Disassembly

  • Locate the screws: Carefully observe the gaps at the bottom, sides, or the junction between the armrest and the chair body to find the fixing screws. Since some screws may be covered by plastic caps, gently pry open the caps at this time to avoid damaging the caps or surrounding components.
  • Select the tools: Based on the type of screw slot (flat-head or cross-head) or the hexagonal socket size, choose a screwdriver or hexagonal wrench that exactly matches the size. If the tool does not match, it is very likely to cause the screw to slip during the unscrewing process, increasing the difficulty of disassembly.
  • Unscrew the screws: Align the selected tool with the screw and turn it counterclockwise with uniform force until the screw is completely removed. If the screw is tight or rusty, you can try spraying a small amount of lubricant to assist in turning it, making the screw easier to remove.
  • Separate and store: After all the fixing screws have been unscrewed, hold the armrest cover firmly with both hands and gently lift it upwards or pull it outwards to separate the armrest cover from the armrest frame. At the same time, place all the screws in a safe place to prevent loss for subsequent installation.

Snap-Fit Fixing Method Disassembly

  • Find the snap-fit gaps: Carefully inspect along the junction between the armrest cover and the frame. Usually, you can find the gaps or interfaces where the snap-fits are connected. This is the key position for the next operation.
  • Use a pry bar: It is strongly recommended to use a plastic pry bar or a discarded hard plastic card. Insert the tip of the pry bar into the gap and start from one end. Gently pry to disengage the first snap-fit. Using plastic tools can avoid scratching the surface of plastic components.
  • Gradually separate: After the first snap-fit is released, slowly move the pry bar along the gap and pry open the other snap-fits one by one. Throughout this process, be sure to maintain uniform force and gentle movements to avoid breaking the snap-fits by forceful pulling, which will affect subsequent installation.
  • Remove the components: After all the snap-fits are disengaged, the armrest cover can be removed.
