Office Chair Armrest Disassembly
Admin October 09, 2026
The disassembly method of an office chair armrest mainly depends on its fixing method, commonly including screw fixing and snap-fit fixing. The specific operations are as follows:

Disassembly of Screw Fixing Method
- Locate the screws: Carefully observe the gaps at the bottom, sides, or the junction with the chair body of the armrest to find the fixing screws. Some screws may be covered by plastic caps and need to be carefully pried open with a flat tool (such as a plastic pry bar) to avoid scratching the surface.
- Select the tool: Choose a screwdriver or an Allen wrench that exactly matches the size according to the type of screw slot (flat-head, Phillips) or the Allen wrench model. An unmatched tool may cause the screw to slip or damage the screw head.
- Unscrew the screws: Align the tool with the screw and turn it counterclockwise with even force to loosen it. If the screw is tight or rusty, a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40) can be sprayed to help loosen it. After unscrewing all the screws, place them together to prevent loss.
- Separate the components: Hold the armrest cover firmly with both hands and gently lift it up or pull it outward to separate it from the armrest frame. If the connection is tight, you can gently tap the edge of the frame to help loosen it and avoid violent pulling that may cause deformation.
Disassembly of Snap-Fit Fixing Method
- Find the snap-fit gaps: Check along the junction between the armrest cover and the frame to usually find the gaps or interfaces of the snap-fit connections. Some snap-fits may be hidden under decorative strips and need to be removed first.
- Use a pry bar: It is recommended to use a plastic pry bar or a discarded hard plastic card (such as a bank card). Insert the tip of the pry bar into the gap and gently pry from one end to disengage the first snap-fit. Avoid using metal tools to prevent scratching the plastic surface.
- Separate gradually: After the first snap-fit is loosened, slowly move the pry bar along the gap and pry open the other snap-fits one by one. Keep the force even and the movement gentle during operation to prevent the snap-fits from breaking or the components from deforming.
- Remove the component: After all the snap-fits are disengaged, the armrest cover can be naturally removed. If some broken parts of the snap-fits remain in the frame, carefully remove them with needle-nose pliers to avoid affecting subsequent installation.
Other Precautions
- Disassemble only when necessary: The disassembly of an office chair may be more difficult than its installation, especially the tight connection between the gas lift and the chair legs. Forced disassembly may cause damage or safety hazards.
- Prepare tools: Before disassembly, prepare tools such as an Allen wrench, a rubber mallet, and lubricant to improve efficiency and reduce the risk of damage.
- Operate according to the standard: Follow the correct steps and apply the appropriate force to avoid damaging the components. If you need to disassemble the gas lift or the chair legs, it is recommended to refer to the product manual or contact a professional.
