Office Chair Armrest Cracked

Admin October 10, 2026

If the armrest of your office chair is cracked, you can choose a repair method based on the material and the extent of the damage. If it cannot be repaired, replacement is recommended.

If the armrest of your office chair is made of wood, you can refer to the following steps for repair:

  1. Glue Bonding: Use woodworking glue to align and bond the broken parts, ensuring a firm bond. Apply appropriate pressure during bonding to prevent shifting before the glue dries.
  2. Filling the Break: After the glue is completely dry, use a filler (such as wood powder mixed with glue) that matches the color of the wood to fill the break, ensuring a flat surface.
  3. Sanding: Use fine sandpaper (e.g., 400 grit or higher) to gently sand the filled area along the grain of the wood until the surface is smooth and free of bumps.
  4. Color Matching and Painting: Mix paint or wood finish according to the original color of the armrest and apply it to the repaired area by spraying or brushing, trying to match the tone with the rest of the armrest. If the original armrest has patterns or wood grain, use a fine brush or wood grain pen to redraw them.

Another method for repairing wooden armrests is:

  1. Glue and Fixation: First, bond the broken parts with glue, then temporarily fix them with a setting tool (such as a hot glue gun) to ensure structural stability.
  2. Filling the Crack: Fill the crack with sawdust mixed with 502 glue, and after it dries, remove any excess to ensure a flat seam.
  3. Fine Sanding: Sand until smooth with fine sandpaper, being careful to control the pressure to avoid damaging the wood surface.
  4. Color Matching and Coating: Choose a coating that closely matches the original color for application, and if necessary, apply multiple layers of color to enhance the match.

If the armrest is severely broken or has high load-bearing requirements, you can try strengthening the structure: Drill small holes at the break, insert steel wire or iron rods, and wrap them several times to enhance the load-bearing capacity, then fill and sand as described above.

If the repair effect is unsatisfactory or the armrest is too severely damaged (e.g., multiple cracks, structural deformation), it is recommended to directly replace it with a new chair armrest. When replacing, choose an armrest that matches the model of the original chair and install it according to the instructions or professional guidance to ensure safety and stability.
