Office Chair Armrest Broken

Admin October 22, 2026

If the armrest of your office chair is broken, you can choose methods such as purchasing a new armrest separately, buying an armrest cover, having it repaired by a carpenter or repair technician, or fixing it yourself, depending on the extent of the damage.

  1. Purchase a New Armrest Separately
If the chair is a branded product (such as a branded office chair or gaming chair), you can contact customer service through official channels and provide the product model to inquire about the availability of original armrests for sale. Some home furnishing brands (such as IKEA) also offer replacement part services. If original parts cannot be obtained, you can search for universal armrests produced by third-party manufacturers on platforms like Taobao or Alibaba. These armrests are often installed using clamps or drilling methods, have wide compatibility, and typically cost between a few dozen to two hundred yuan.

  2. Purchase an Armrest Cover
If the armrest is only damaged on the surface (such as leather wear or fabric tears), you can purchase an armrest cover made of cotton, leather, or memory foam to cover it. These products not only conceal wear marks but also enhance comfort during use. The cost is generally less than 50 yuan, and installation is convenient, making them suitable for temporary or low-cost repair needs.

  3. Have It Repaired by a Carpenter or Repair Technician
If the armrest is completely broken and replacement parts cannot be purchased (such as solid wood armrests), you can contact a professional carpenter to repair it using methods like mortise-and-tenon joints or splicing. Although this method may cost more than replacing the armrest with a new one, it can maximize the retention of the chair's original structural integrity and is suitable for users with special requirements for the chair's appearance or material.

  4. Fix It Yourself

    • Use Glue: For broken wooden armrests, you can use woodworking glue for bonding. When applying the glue, control the amount to avoid overflow affecting aesthetics, and apply appropriate pressure to ensure a firm bond. Wait for the glue to dry completely before using the chair.
    • Reinforce with Steel Wire or Iron Rod: If the load-bearing structure of the armrest is damaged, you can drill holes at the break and insert steel wire or an iron rod, then wrap and secure it to enhance load-bearing capacity. This method requires attention to the drilling position and matching the thickness of the steel wire to avoid secondary damage.

Precautions: Before fixing it yourself, assess the extent of the damage. If structural safety is involved (such as a broken metal armrest), it is recommended to prioritize professional repair or replacement of parts. When purchasing third-party armrests, confirm that the size matches to avoid installation difficulties.
