Office Chair Armrest Broken

Admin October 19, 2026

After the armrest of an office chair breaks, you can choose to repair or replace the parts based on the material and type of damage. Here are the specific solutions:

I. Repair Methods for Broken Wooden Armrests

If the broken part is a wooden armrest, you need to select glue according to the usage environment and wood type:

  1. Humid or high-stress environments: For outdoor chairs, dining chairs, etc., prioritize using epoxy resin AB glue or D4-grade panel glue. These glues are highly water-resistant, bond firmly after curing, and can withstand significant external forces.
  2. Indoor dry environments: Ordinary wooden armrests can be bonded with white glue, which is low-cost and easy to use. However, it is important to ensure a dry environment to prevent the glue from coming loose.
  3. Repairing fine cracks: If the crack is small, you can choose polyurethane woodworking glue. It has good toughness and water resistance, and after curing, it will slightly expand to fill the crack and enhance structural stability.
  4. Repairing mortise-and-tenon joints: For high-end wooden chairs such as those made of rosewood, if the break involves damage to the tenon, traditional techniques like โ€œwedge-tenonโ€ should be used for repair. This process is complex and requires skilled carpentry to ensure precise alignment of the mortise-and-tenon joint and restore the chair's load-bearing capacity.

II. Replacement Solutions for Plastic or Metal Armrests

The armrests of modern office chairs and gaming chairs are often made of plastic or metal materials. Their connectors are prone to breaking due to aging or metal fatigue, making repair difficult. Directly replacing the parts is a more efficient option:

  1. Part selection: Search for โ€œcomputer chair armrest partsโ€ on e-commerce platforms to find a wide range of universal or model-specific parts, usually priced between a few yuan and several tens of yuan.
  2. Replacement steps:
    • Remove the old armrest: Use a screwdriver or other tools to remove the fixing screws and take off the broken armrest.
    • Measure the mounting hole spacing: Accurately measure the mounting hole spacing of the old armrest to ensure the new part matches the chair.
    • Install the new armrest: Align the new part with the mounting holes and secure it with screws. The entire process takes about 30 minutes once you are skilled.

III. Handling Special-Structure Armrests

If the screw holes on the armrest base are worn or the metal bracket is fatigued and broken, and the chair is a special structure like a connected mesh swivel chair, you can look for original-grade or compatible connected metal armrest kits for replacement. These kits are reasonably designed, easy to install, and some can even improve the user experience (such as adding adjustment functions).
