Office Chair Armrest Adjustment

Admin October 09, 2026

The adjustment of office chair armrests should be carried out scientifically from three dimensions—height, front-back, and width—according to specific needs, with different models potentially having varying operation methods.

Height Adjustment

  • Right-Angle Positioning Method: First, adjust the seat height to ensure that your feet are flat on the ground and your knees are bent at a 90-degree angle. Sit up straight, let your upper arms hang naturally close to your torso, and bend your elbows at a 90-degree angle. Measure the vertical distance from the tip of your elbow to the seat surface; this value is the standard height for the armrests (usually 20 - 25 centimeters). When adjusting, support the tip of your elbow with your hand and slowly raise or lower the armrests until they fully support the weight of your arms and your shoulders do not feel raised or lowered. If the armrests are non-adjustable and too high, you can place a 3 - 5 centimeter thick cushion; if they are too low, remove them or place a footrest under the seat to level it.
  • Natural Hanging Principle: When typing, your elbows should be like “naturally hanging water pipes”. The armrests should gently support your elbows, avoiding pushing them askew or pulling them down, ensuring that your arms are in a relaxed state.

Front-Back Adjustment

After adjusting the height of the armrests, push the armrests forward and backward so that the elbow bending point is on the same vertical line as the edge of the table. At this time, your forearms can naturally rest on the armrests, and your wrists can lie flat on the table to operate the mouse and keyboard without deliberately reaching forward or retracting. If the armrests cannot be adjusted front and back, you can compensate by adjusting the distance between the seat and the table: sit up straight and extend your arm so that your fingertips can just touch the edge of the keyboard, which is the appropriate distance.

Width Adjustment

When your arms hang naturally, the distance between your elbows is basically the same as your shoulder width. Adjust the width of the armrests so that the inner sides of the armrests fit closely with the outer sides of your upper arms, with a gap of no more than 2 centimeters. Being too wide will cause your shoulders to abduct, while being too narrow will restrict movement, both of which may lead to shoulder strain. For those with a heavier build, it is recommended to choose armrests that are 3 centimeters wider than your shoulder width; for those with a slimmer build, you can choose models with an inward-adjustment function to suit different body types.

Adjustment Examples for Different Models

  • C100 Premium Edition: The armrests have gears. Gently lift them up, and after reaching the highest point, they will return to the first gear. Height adjustment is achieved by repeatedly lifting them.
  • Gaotian Massage Master Model: There is a button on the side of the armrests. Press and hold the button while moving the armrests up and down, and they will be fixed in the current position when released. The operation is simple and intuitive.

When adjusting, consider your own usage scenarios (such as office work, gaming, etc.) and physical characteristics to ensure that the armrests form a natural support with your body, reducing muscle fatigue and the risk of strain. If you still feel uncomfortable after adjustment, it is recommended to check the overall angle of the seat or consult a professional.
