Arm Exercises Using an Office Chair

Admin October 14, 2026

You can use an office chair for arm exercises, with common methods including tricep dips and other upper-body strength training using two chairs. Details are as follows:

Tricep Dips:

  • Key Movements: Place both hands on the edge of the office chair, ensuring the chair is stable and won't slide or tip over. Extend both feet forward with toes touching the ground, straighten your arms to support your body, and keep your body suspended in the air. Then, slowly lower your torso, feeling the stretch in your arm muscles. When you've lowered to a certain extent, use your arm strength to push your torso back up to the starting position. Throughout the process, try to maintain body stability and avoid swaying.
  • Muscles Worked: During the exercise, you can clearly feel the effort from your triceps and anterior deltoid muscles. The triceps, located on the back of the upper arm, are the primary muscles used in tricep dips. Through repeated contraction and relaxation, you can effectively enhance their strength and endurance. The anterior deltoid muscles play an important role in maintaining body stability and assisting arm effort.
  • Sets and Reps: Perform 10 - 15 reps per set, completing 2 - 3 sets. Beginners can start with fewer reps and sets and gradually increase the intensity as their body adapts.

Upper-Body Strength Training Using Two Chairs:

  • Exercise Variations for Different Fitness Levels: For individuals at different fitness levels, different numbers of reps can be adopted. Beginners can do 6 related exercises, intermediate-level individuals can do 20, and advanced-level individuals can do 50. A specific exercise can be to mimic push-ups using two chairs. Place both hands on separate chairs, keep your body in a straight line, and then perform push-up-like flexion and extension movements. This increases the range of motion and difficulty, providing a better workout for your upper-body strength.
  • Precautions: When using an office chair for exercise, always ensure the chair's safety to avoid injury due to instability. Also, arrange the intensity and number of reps according to your physical condition and exercise capacity to avoid overexertion and injury. If you experience pain or discomfort during exercise, stop immediately and consult a professional for advice.
