Office Chair Anti-Slip

Admin October 09, 2026

Measures can be taken to prevent office chairs from slipping down for different reasons:

Regarding the gas spring issue The failure of the gas spring is the main reason for the automatic slipping down of office chairs, accounting for more than 90%. The core mechanism is the wear of the internal sealing ring or nitrogen leakage, resulting in the loss of locking force. The following self-inspection methods can be used:

  1. Pressing test: Press down on the seat quickly. If the rebound force disappears and you directly โ€œsit to the bottomโ€, it indicates that the gas spring is leaking.
  2. Sitting and listening: When remaining still, if there is a continuous hissing sound from the bottom of the chair, it can be further confirmed.
  3. Observing the performance: If the chair slips down automatically or is obviously not level without anyone adjusting it, it needs to be checked as a priority. The solution is to replace it with a qualified gas spring. The following points should be noted:
  • Matching specifications: Choose a gas spring with the same pipe diameter and stroke as the original chair to avoid installation difficulties or structural damage.
  • Safety certification: Give priority to purchasing products with SGS Level 4 certification, TUV certification, or that comply with the GB/T 2280-2016 standard to ensure that the nitrogen purity is โ‰ฅ99% and there is no explosion risk.
  • Standard installation: When replacing, fully release the gas in the old gas spring to avoid accidents caused by high-pressure residue.

Regarding the chair seat connector issue If the connection between the chair seat and the gas rod is loose, it may cause slight sinking and a wobbling sensation. At this time, check whether the screws and bolts are tightened, and use tools (such as a wrench) to tighten them one by one. This problem is different from the โ€œsmooth sinkingโ€ caused by gas spring failure and can be judged by shaking the seat.

Regarding new chair issues Some new chairs may slip down due to incorrect installation of the tray, which is manifested by an abnormal position of the lifting lever (such as being on the left-hand side). At this time, the tray should be removed and reinstalled to ensure that the lever is on the right-hand side and the lifting function is normal. This problem is mostly due to negligence during the assembly process and can be solved after adjustment.

Summary: The failure of the gas spring should be checked and replaced as a priority. Loose connectors or an incorrectly installed tray can be repaired through simple adjustments. During daily use, avoid violent adjustment of the seat height and regularly check the sealing of the gas spring to extend its service life and reduce the risk of slipping down.
