Preventing Office Chair Peeling
Admin October 22, 2026
To prevent office chairs from peeling, it is necessary to consider both material selection and purchasing considerations.

Material Selection
- Genuine Leather: It offers superior texture and a soft touch, enhancing the quality of the office environment. However, genuine leather is relatively expensive and has stringent requirements for the usage environment, being sensitive to water and sunlight. Moisture and sunlight can accelerate the aging of genuine leather, causing it to harden, crack, and even peel. Additionally, genuine leather requires regular maintenance, such as wiping with professional leather care products, to maintain its good condition and extend its service life.
- Ordinary PU Leather or PVC Leather: These materials are relatively inexpensive and are chosen by many consumers with limited budgets. However, their aging resistance is poor, and they may crack and peel after two or three years of use, affecting the appearance and usability of the office chair.
- Microfiber: As a high-end category of synthetic leather, microfiber has many advantages. It is wear-resistant and hydrolysis-resistant, able to withstand friction and humid environments during daily use without easily being damaged. Its breathability is superior to that of ordinary synthetic leather, ensuring comfort even after prolonged use. In terms of price, microfiber falls between genuine leather and ordinary synthetic leather, making it a stable and cost-effective choice for chair upholstery considering both performance and price.
Purchasing Considerations
- Check Wear and Hydrolysis Resistance Indicators: These two indicators directly determine how long an office chair can be used without developing cracks or peeling. When purchasing, carefully review the product's relevant test reports or descriptions and choose products with excellent wear and hydrolysis resistance.
- Smell the Chair: The pungent odor of a new chair often comes from inferior materials. If a chair emits a strong odor, it may indicate the use of materials containing harmful substances, which can not only affect the health of the user but also suggest poor quality and a higher likelihood of peeling issues.
- Examine the Details: Whether the stitching is neat and whether the fabric is thick can reflect the quality of materials used in the office chair. Neat stitching indicates fine craftsmanship, while thick fabric suggests better material quality. Such office chairs are more durable and have a lower likelihood of peeling.
