Office Chair Angle Adjustment
The front-to-back angle adjustment of an office chair primarily involves two parts: the backrest and the seat. Proper adjustment can enhance comfort and protect spinal health.

Backrest Angle Adjustment
The adjustment lever for the backrest of most office chairs is located on the left or right side beneath the seat. By pulling up the lever and making slight body adjustments, the angle of the backrest can be changed. It is generally recommended to recline the backrest between 100ยฐ and 110ยฐ, as this range better fits the natural curve of the lumbar spine and reduces pressure on the lower back during prolonged sitting. If relaxation or a short rest is needed, the recline angle can be appropriately increased, but excessive recline should be avoided to prevent instability of the body's center of gravity. Some high-end ergonomic chairs are equipped with independent knobs for fine-tuning the recline angle and tension: turning the knob clockwise increases the recline resistance, suitable for users with a heavier weight or those who need a fixed angle; turning it counterclockwise reduces the resistance, facilitating easy recline.
Seat Angle Design
The seat inclination of office chairs is typically divided into three categories:
- Reclined Design (2ยฐ~5ยฐ): This is the traditional standard recommended angle, which balances lumbar support with sitting stability. However, care should be taken to avoid excessive angles that may cause the body to slide forward.
- Horizontal Design (0ยฐ): Suitable for scenarios requiring a fixed sitting posture, but prolonged use may increase pressure on the back of the thighs.
- Forward-Tilted Design (0ยฐ~5ยฐ, ideal value of 3ยฐ-5ยฐ): A forward-tilted seat effectively disperses pressure on the back of the thighs and helps maintain the natural curve of the spine, especially suitable for prolonged desk work or detailed tasks like drawing.
Dynamic Adjustment Recommendations
Flexibly adjusting the angles according to the usage scenario can enhance efficiency and comfort:
- During focused work: It is recommended to recline the backrest between 100ยฐ and 110ยฐ and keep the seat horizontal or slightly forward-tilted (3ยฐ-5ยฐ) to reduce lower back fatigue and maintain eye-level vision.
- During relaxation or rest: The backrest recline angle can be increased to 120ยฐ-130ยฐ, while slightly adjusting the seat to recline (2ยฐ-3ยฐ). However, ensure the chair's center of gravity is stable to avoid tipping risks.
Additionally, some high-end office chairs support seat cushion sliding adjustment. By adjusting the position of the seat cushion to maintain a 2-3 finger gap between the back of the knee and the front edge of the cushion, pressure on the popliteal blood vessels and nerves can be avoided, further enhancing comfort during prolonged sitting. Adjustments should be made gradually according to personal body type and usage habits to find the optimal state.
