Office Chair and Seat

Admin October 08, 2026

An office chair is a piece of furniture used for sitting among office desks and chairs, and it is an indispensable part of office settings. Its main function is to provide comfortable sitting support for users to meet the needs of long-term office work.

From the perspective of material classification, office chairs come in a variety of materials, with common types including panel, steel, metal, and soft-padded ones. Panel office chairs usually use artificial panels as the main structure, covered with wear-resistant materials on the surface. They have the characteristics of relatively low cost and easy cleaning, making them suitable for office environments with limited budgets or high durability requirements. Steel office chairs have steel frames, offering a sturdy structure and strong load-bearing capacity. They are often used in places that require high-strength support, such as industrial-style offices or public areas. Metal office chairs mostly use lightweight metals like aluminum alloys, combined with mesh or leather cushions, balancing aesthetics and breathability, and are suitable for modern minimalist office spaces. Soft-padded office chairs are filled with soft materials such as sponge or memory foam, with the outer layer wrapped in leather or fabric, providing a more comfortable sitting experience. They are suitable for positions that require long hours of sitting, such as designers or programmers.

In terms of usage scenarios, the design of office chairs is adjusted according to different spatial requirements. Office individual workstations are usually equipped with office chairs with adjustable heights and armrests to adapt to personalized usage habits. Open-plan staff offices often use office chairs of uniform specifications, focusing on space utilization and cost control. Conference rooms tend to choose lightweight and easily movable chairs, facilitating flexible layout adjustments according to the scale of the meeting.

From a functional design perspective, the core of an office chair is ergonomic support. High-quality office chairs disperse body pressure and reduce fatigue from prolonged sitting through adjustable lumbar supports, headrests, and armrests. Some high-end models are also equipped with breathable mesh, pneumatic height adjustment devices, or swivel bases to further enhance the user experience. For example, office chairs in a minimalist modern style may feature thickened cushions and bases with reserved spaces for computer hosts, while chairs in a Korean minimalist style are characterized by smooth lines and a moderately soft and hard sitting feel, meeting different aesthetic and functional needs.
