Office Chair Always Turns

Admin October 16, 2026

An office chair that always turns may be caused by foreign object blockage, dry axles, or overly tight screws, and can be resolved by clearing foreign objects, adding lubricant, or adjusting screws.

Firstly, foreign object blockage is a common cause. If the office chair has a swivel base with universal wheels, foreign objects such as hair, small stones, or dust may get stuck in the gaps between the rollers. These foreign objects can obstruct the normal rotation of the rollers, causing the office chair to turn when moved. In this case, use a small card or tweezers to carefully remove the foreign objects stuck in the gaps between the rollers. After cleaning, move the office chair again to see if the turning issue persists.

Secondly, dry axles may also cause the office chair to turn. If the axles have not been lubricated for a long time, they may become dry and rotate less smoothly. In this situation, apply a small amount of silicone oil or specialized lubricant to the axles and let it sit for a while to allow the oil to fully penetrate. Then, rotate the rollers back and forth several times to evenly distribute the lubricant, making the rotation of the axles smoother and potentially resolving the turning issue of the office chair.

Finally, overly tight screws on the fixed base can also be a cause. When installing the office chair, if the screws fixing the rollers are tightened too much, they can compress the rotation space of the rollers, preventing them from rotating freely and causing the turning phenomenon. In this case, slightly loosen the screws fixing the rollers, adjust the axles to a position where they can move freely, and then tighten the screws again. This way, the rollers can return to normal rotation, and the turning issue of the office chair will be resolved accordingly.
