Office Chair Always Slides

Admin October 22, 2026

If an office chair always slides, the following methods can be used to solve the problem:

  1. Use a fixed-foot design for the chair
Fixed feet achieve stability by increasing the contact area and friction between the chair feet and the ground. They are suitable for scenarios with high stability requirements, such as laboratories and drawing rooms. However, this design sacrifices mobility convenience and needs to be weighed according to actual needs.

  2. Use wheels with brakes
Wheels with brakes control movement through mechanical locking devices. Pressing the brake fixes the chair's position, and releasing it restores sliding. They offer high flexibility but require operating each of the five wheels individually, which can be a bit cumbersome. They are suitable for scenarios that require frequent switching between fixed and mobile states.

  3. Adopt a gravity self-locking wheel design
Gravity self-locking wheels use the weight of the human body to trigger a locking mechanism: when sitting on the chair, the wheels automatically lock; when getting up, they unlock and restore sliding. This design balances convenience and safety and is especially suitable for brief fixing in office scenarios, such as when typing or reading.

  4. Place a rough carpet under the chair
Increasing the ground friction reduces sliding and is suitable for occasions with low stability requirements. Note that the carpet material should be rough enough (such as short pile or rubber backing), and regular cleaning is required to prevent dust from reducing the anti-slip effect.

  5. Use self-adhesive anti-slip pads/EVA protective pads
Directly stick them to the bottom of the chair feet. They increase friction through the surface texture of polymer materials and also have the functions of noise reduction and preventing scratches on the floor. They are suitable for most floors such as wooden floors and tiles, but regular checks of the adhesion are required to prevent detachment.

  6. Use chair leg covers

    • Silicone covers: They have excellent elasticity, are anti-slip and wear-resistant, and are easy to install. They are the preferred general-purpose option, especially suitable for hard floors.
    • Felt pads: They have outstanding noise-reduction effects and provide strong protection for soft floors such as wooden floors. However, their anti-slip performance is weak on smooth hard surfaces (such as tiles), and they should be kept away from humid environments.
    • Anti-slip tapes: They can be cut and wrapped around irregular chair legs and have strong fixing properties. However, they may leave adhesive residue when removed, so the adhesive level should be carefully selected.
  7. Lay large-area anti-slip mats
Lay dedicated anti-slip mats or carpets in the chair's activity area to prevent sliding by increasing overall friction and also protect the floor. Choose anti-slip mats that match the floor material (such as rubber backing for tiles and short pile for wooden floors) and clean them regularly to maintain the effect.
